We are seeking a highly motivated Design Engineer to join our Engineering team in Hackett's Cove, Nova Scotia. We need self-starters who have a keen interest in the design and development of the latest in RF technologies and power electronics.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
Participate in all aspects of product design from concept through system design, component design, component testing, system testing, and successful production of high powered electronic components;
Design and develop various system components such as amplifiers, power supplies, combiners, filters, working with customers who use these products for a variety of applications (broadcast, military, industrial, etc);
Integration of system components, including assisting with production drawing package development and product technical literature;
Creative prototyping making use of available tools and materials;
Designing/building experimental setups and creating test procedures;
Investigative experimentation including evaluation of prototype hardware/software;
Maintaining detailed design and experimentation notes and reporting on progress;
Ensuring quality and cost of product designs;
Providing technical support to the Production, Customer Service and Sales departments;
Involvement in system implementation, installation and commissioning;
Representing the company through direct customer contact and at events such as industry conferences, trade shows and presentation of technical papers;
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Qualifications and Skills Desired
Bachelor of Engineering or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of achievements and education;
Proven ability to quickly learn complex concepts and apply them to your work;
Proven ability to analyze problems and leverage knowledge to reach a successful solution;
Ability to work well within a team and independently;
Effective written and oral communication skills, which will be used internally within the team and across other departments in the Company and externally with customers;
Thorough understanding of power conversion or RF design and knowledge of communication/navigation systems, power/analog/digital electronics, and/or passive networks would be an asset;
Previous demonstrated work experience in the design of electronic equipment, in all aspects of product design would be an asset;
Detailed understanding of test equipment operation such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and network analyzers would be an asset;
Simulation experience with tools such as Spice, Ansys, ADS and MATLAB would be an asset;
Design experience with CAD tools such as KiCad and Fusion360 would be an asset;
Experience in a leadership role would be an asset.
