What you will be doing…
- This role involves updating and continually improving the NSCC Safety Management System, ensuring full compliance with OH&S regulations to safeguard the well-being of faculty, staff, students, external clients, and College facilities. The individual is responsible for maintaining an effective Industrial Hygiene program and addressing any risk mitigation actions. They ensure accurate documentation of safety incidents, injuries, and remediation activities, while collaborating with key stakeholders, including campus leadership and the facilities manager, to drive safety improvements.
- This position also includes managing ergonomic evaluations, advising on OH&S education for faculty and students, and providing leadership to Safety Officers to foster a strong safety culture. Additionally, the role includes serving as Chair or Co-Chair of the OH&S Committee when required, updating and implementing the 5S+S reporting and compliance, and executing regular safety audits to assess and improve HSE policies and procedures. The individual prepares audit reports, presents findings and recommendations to senior management, and may represent the department at internal and external meetings.
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
- The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant Post-Secondary education such as Industrial Hygiene or Health and Safety. An advanced safety certification, such as CRSP, would be considered an asset. Valid CPR certification and first aid training would be considered an asset.
- You have a minimum of 7 years of recent and related occupational experience in a related field; ideally in a postsecondary environment. Demonstrated experience with occupational health & safety policies, standards and compliance.
- You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the full suite of Microsoft Office software products and email systems such as Outlook.
- You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience
