Halifax Water is accepting applications for one (1) regular Water Quality Engineer in the Environment, Health & Safety Department.

The Water Quality Engineer is a key team member in the management of water quality throughout Halifax Water infrastructure. They provide leadership in Halifax Water by delivering services that protect public health and the environment, by knowing water infrastructure and operations systems intimately, to increase operational resilience.

Recent graduates, holding an Engineer-in-Training designation, may be considered.

Responsabilités
  1. Assists with developing and implementing research, strategies, and programs to improve the performance of Halifax Water's infrastructure relative to water quality objectives.
  2. Leads the investigation of water quality issues and implements actions to resolve problems, involving the collection of information, data analysis , development and implementation of optimization strategies, and preparation of technical memos and reports.
  3. Performs assessments of water infrastructure, to define how and where the infrastructure does not comply with applicable regulations, both now and in the future, and creates development concept- level solutions to ensure compliance, including assigning priorities and estimating costs.
  4. Assists in the design, project management and construction management of capital infrastructure projects.
  5. Prepares scope of work documents and manages the activities of external consultants, contractors and suppliers.
  6. Provides technical support to Operations, Engineering & Capital Infrastructure, and Environment, Health & Safety.
  7. Liaises with various internal and external stakeholders.
  8. Understands and interprets legislation, rules and regulations and standards, and other relevant documents.
  9. Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Post Secondary degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent with Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation.

Experience:

  • Five years of progressively responsible related experience in a municipal engineering field.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

  • Must be eligible for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia
  • Valid NS Driver's License and access to reliable transportation on an ongoing basis.
  • Operator-in-Training Certification would be considered an asset.
  • Must be willing to undertake and maintain the following safety training:
    • First Aid
    • Globally Harmonized System (GHS) (Formerly WHMIS)
    • Additional safety training as identified based on legislative and operational requirements
