If you have a deep understanding of the military lifestyle and a passion for making a difference in the lives of families, we'd love to meet you.

Your Role

As the Family Counsellor & Program Coordinator, you will provide direct support, guidance, and advocacy to families navigating the unique challenges of military life, including deployments, transitions, and personal hardships. You'll work one-on-one with individuals and families, develop and deliver community programs, and ensure Military and Veteran families have access to the resources they need to thrive.

What You'll Be Doing

Family Support & Counselling

  • Offer short-term counselling and crisis support for issues such as family transitions, bereavement, marital challenges, mental health concerns, and more.
  • Facilitate referrals to specialized services when additional professional support is needed.
  • Provide case management and advocacy to ensure families receive necessary services and resources.
  • Support families dealing with illness, injury, loss, or special needs, connecting them with relevant programs and benefits.
  • Conduct outreach calls to check in on families and offer support.

Program Development & Community Engagement

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs that support military families, filling service gaps in the community.
  • Facilitate workshops, information sessions, and self-help groups tailored to military lifestyle challenges.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships with local organizations to enhance available resources.
  • Provide educational materials and training for families and professionals on Military/Veteran family life and mental health topics.
  • Coordinate community events and initiatives that foster resilience and connection among Military/Veteran families.

Advocacy & Collaboration

  • Serve as a trusted advocate for families, ensuring their needs are heard and met.
  • Collaborate with local service providers, clinical teams, and community partners to ensure a seamless support network.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, advisory teams, and working groups that focus on family wellness and support.

What You Bring to the Team

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Several years of experience in counselling, case management, family support services, or program development.
  • Eligibility for professional designation and provincial registration.
  • Certification in Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Intervention, Crisis Intervention, or similar training (or willingness to obtain).

Skills & Qualities

  • A warm, empathetic approach with a strong ability to build trust and rapport.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills for both individual and group settings.
  • Experience working with crisis intervention and risk assessment.
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging workshops, programs, and resources.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and program evaluation.
  • Familiarity with military culture and the challenges faced by military families.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.

Why Join Us?

We are a community that puts people first. Here, your work directly impacts the lives of Military and Veteran families, offering them the support and resources they need to feel connected, resilient, and empowered. You'll be part of a team that values collaboration, compassion, and innovation-where your ideas and expertise help shape the programs and services that make a difference every day.

If you're ready to make an impact in the lives of military families, we'd love to welcome you to our team.

Only individuals selected for an interview will be contacted. Expected start date is April 2025.
