Franchise Management Inc. (FMI) is looking to hire an individual who lives by our corporate values of Heart, Integrity and Drive to fill the position of Tax Accountant.The Tax Accountant is involved in all areas of tax, regulatory compliance and reporting to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations in an accurate and timely fashion.This includes preparing the various federal, provincial, state and local sales and use tax returns, annual tax filings and government reporting, and providing assistance with
schedules for corporate tax returns and year-end audit.
What you will do:
- Prepare all sales and use tax returns and relevant reports, including issuance of exemption certificates
- Monitor changes to tax rates for all jurisdictions (Canada and US) and work with the Ops and Menu Maintenance teams to ensure new tax rates are calculating correctly in the POS systems
- Reconcile all tax related GL accounts in the accounting system, Sage 300, and reporting system, Blackline
- Reporting and management of SRS/SRM program for Quebec locations
- Prepare and submit the annual filing of the 1099 US tax forms
- Prepare and submit annual filing of US personal property tax returns
- Prepare audit working papers for year-end and prepare schedules needed for corporate tax return
- Respond to notices and audit requests from government tax authorities
- Support for payroll and employment related taxes and reconciliations
- Research tax questions and handle special projects as needed
- Other duties and projects as assigned by Controller
What you bring to the role:
- Post-secondary education in business, accounting or tax; degree is preferred but will also consider a combination of education plus relevant experience
