At the Teachers' Pension Plan Corporation (TPPC), you will be part of a team dedicated to the management and sustainability of the second largest public sector pension plan in the province. The TPPC administers the Teachers' Pension Plan in Newfoundland and Labrador, with over 18,000 members and assets exceeding $5.2 billion. We are seeking an Investment Analyst to join our Private Markets team. Reporting to the Manager - Private Markets, you will monitor investment performance, assist in the design and development of financial models and build relationships with investment managers. This role requires an individual that is analytical, with strong financial modelling skills, and who enjoys working collaboratively in a team environment.
What You Will Do:
- Monitor, analyze and report on the performance and investment characteristics of existing private markets fund managers, ensuring compliance with investment management agreements as well as internal investment policies.
- Assist in the design and maintenance of investment manager monitoring systems and processes, including the tracking, review and analysis of reporting from private markets investment managers.
- Coordinate and participate in quarterly private markets investment manager meetings.
- Develop tools and processes to support performance analytics, financial modelling, portfolio analysis and performance reporting.
- Maintain and update various financial models, including the pacing model used for planning private market commitments.
- Assist in the development and implementation of standardized and automated systems to improve operational efficiency and controls within the private markets investment team.
- Participate in the screening and evaluation of prospective private markets investment managers, contributing to development and standardization of the due diligence process used to support appointment recommendations.
- Assist in the development and preparation of reporting materials for Management, the Investment Committee and the Board.
- Support ESG initiatives, including the distribution and scoring of annual questionnaires, highlighting areas for follow-up with investment managers as appropriate.
- Remain abreast of private markets investment themes and trends and contribute to the sharing of knowledge across the entire investment team.
- Conduct other research and participate in special projects as needed.
Who You Are:
- You hold an undergraduate or advanced degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics or a related field and/or equivalent educational experience. While not required, a CPA, CFA, or similar designation would be a strong asset.
- You bring at least 3-5 years of experience in analyzing financial data and creating financial models to support business decisions.
- You are an analytical problem solver by nature and have a strong intellectual curiosity, always looking for ways to improve operational processes.
- You have advanced skills in Microsoft Excel with experience in developing and maintaining financial models and are proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Your effective project management skills ensure the seamless coordination and timely completion of multiple projects, consistently meeting deadlines.
- You have strong interpersonal skills and are an effective communicator.
- You understand the importance of paying attention to details and bring a mindset for continuous improvement.
