Purpose:
Corporate Banking is currently recruiting for the position of an Analyst or Associate in its Global Mining team located in Toronto. The individual will support the respective team to manage their marketing activities across capital markets products and their lending portfolios.

The Analyst will be responsible for handling or providing assistance on all credit-related activities including the completion of credit presentations, performing due diligence, reviewing documentation and monitoring compliance and industry trends.

The role focuses on a portfolio of mining companies from small single-mine entities up to and including super-majors. Scotiabank is a leader in lending to the mining industry, including leading many general corporate loan facilities, M&A driven lending transactions and select project financings.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide day to day account management support
  • Analyze and perform due diligence on transactions that vary in complexity
  • Develop recommendations for the appropriate course of action
  • Analyze, process and execute credit requests
  • Research credit and bank product requirements of existing and prospective clients
  • Ensure credit files, agreements and security documents are complete and up to date
  • Monitor and follow for client compliance
  • Assist with the preparation of marketing pitches
  • Coordinate with various product groups within Global Banking & Markets
  • Assist with strategic portfolio projects and reporting

What You'll Bring:

  • BComm/MBA/CFA designation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in Spanish is considered an asset
  • Financial modelling experience
  • Credit 360 experience
  • Mining industry knowledge or experience is preferred although not required
  • Strong computer skills including the use of MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills with concise rationale supporting recommendations and actions
  • High attention to detail with a sense of urgency appropriate to the situation
  • Strong time management skills and driven to achieve timelines and goals
  • Flexible to demands of work and viewed as a valuable team resource
  • Promotes cooperation, teamwork, and professional internal relationships
  • Maintain a professional approach in all client interaction

Work Arrangement:

This position is largely an onsite role, with the expectation that you will work 4-5 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
