Meridia Recruitment Solutions has partnered with Scotia Recycling Limited, a member of the Scotia Investments Family of Companies (SIL), to recruit a Human Resources & Safety Manager to join their team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Role Description
As the Human Resources & Safety Manager, you will lead all Human Resources functions within the facilities in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland, as well as providing leadership for the safety function for the organization. You will act as a trusted advisor to supervisors and managers across the organization, serving as the expert on any Human Resources and Safety-related matters, and mentoring the greater Human Resources team. You will advance existing corporate policies and processes, ensuring the proper interpretation and administration.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Create and promote HR programs, in collaboration with SIL, to create an efficient, enticing and conflict-free workplace;
- Assist in the development and implementation of human resource policies;
- Oversee the recruitment process and strategy for hourly and salaried employees;
- Oversee the employee onboarding process, assisting with the coordination of training & development initiatives;
- Oversee a strong and innovative retention program, while also coordinating employee events and existing rewards programs;
- Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as leaves and compensation and resolve any issues that may arise;
- Oversee the administration of the compensation and benefit plans;
- Provide strategic direction of the corporate safety policies and oversee the safety specialist in the administration of safety programs;
- Organize quarterly and annual employee performance reviews in alignment with the family-wide SIL program;
- Enhance job satisfaction by resolving issues promptly, applying new perks and benefits and organizing team building activities;
- Ensure compliance with labor regulations;
- Guiding the organization through the constant pursuit of effective diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives;
- Act as a business partner with the General Managers of Operations for both the Maritimes and Newfoundland & Labrador in the maintenance of the company safety program, providing support on an as-needed basis.
Your Qualifications
As the ideal candidate, you are a confident and self-motivated HR professional with demonstrated experience in a similar fast-paced environment. You are passionate about creating a work environment that is respectful for everyone and enjoy finding new ways to improve processes and programs to enhance those around you. You thrive on building strong relationships, whether at a facility or in the boardroom, but most importantly you are an exceptional communicator, having the ability to motivate and inspire people through difficult conversations.
Qualifications include:
- Post-secondary education (i.e., degree or diploma) with a focus in Human Resources;
- Minimum five years of progressive experience in Human Resources;
- Self-starter who demonstrates initiative, strives to meet deadlines, accepts responsibility, and works well under minimal supervision;
- High degree of confidentiality, discretion, and diplomacy;
- Ability to work with a strong sense of urgency when required, including flexibility to work outside of standard business hours when needed;
- Sound understanding of general HR policies and procedures, as well as employment/labor laws;
- Proficient in using MS Office and HRIS systems (i.e., Payworks);
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach and guide managers through employee relations issues, reducing conflict and promoting problem solving;
- A valid Nova Scotia driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.
