AIRPORT OPERATIONS SPECIALIST - MECHANIC
Saint John Airport Inc. is hiring a full-time Airport Operations Specialist (AOS), who is
a highly motivated individual and a strong team player. This is a unionized position.
Hours of work and rates of pay are as per the Collective Agreement.
Reporting to the Safety and Emergency Response Supervisor, the AOS/ Mechanic
performs a variety of the maintenance and repair functions to various facilities and
equipment at Saint John Airport in addition to responding to Airport Emergencies as
an Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter (ARFF). In addition to mechanic work, duties include
the operation of heavy and light equipment to remove snow, ice, and other debris
from airport surfaces; operation and maintenance of standard and specialized
apparatus and equipment required to respond to aircraft emergencies; and
performing repairs and maintenance to airport facilities. The successful candidate
must complete firefighting and other training programs as required by the employer
and must maintain the required ARFF certification.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:
• Holds a valid Province of NB driver's license.
• Holds a Valid Red Seal or Province of NB journeyman's license as a Mechanic
equivalent to Truck and Trailer, Heavy Equipment, Automotive, Marine, etc.
(specify).
• Achieve ARFF certification within a 6-month period from the date of hire and
accordingly must pass a practical physical fitness test for firefighters.
• Complete specialized training in airport systems as required and perform
functions such as, but not limited to, runway surface condition reporting.
• Willing to work shiftwork including weekend work and overtime.
• Meet Transport Canada Security clearance requirements.
• Agree to a criminal record check and pass an initial and continuing annual medical
exam.

The following experience or qualifications would be beneficial:
• A current fire fighter certification such as NFPA 1001, Level 1 or related
firefighting experience.
• NB Class 3E driver's license.
• Experience operating dump trucks, snowplows, front end loaders, snow blowers
or similar heavy equipment.
In addition, the candidate's suitability will be based on personal experience as a team
player and will include reference checks. Candidates will be evaluated on communication
skills, interpersonal skills, teamwork, problem solving, initiative, enthusiasm, work ethic,
adaptability, reliability, and attention to detail.
