DUTIES

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this position will be part of a team responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for Memorial University of Newfoundland and other related entities. Specific responsibilities include processing payroll for faculty, staff and students; ensuring compliance with tax legislation, union agreements and University policies and procedures; processing terminations including issuing ROEs and paying any final benefits; processing changes to pay including calculating retroactive payments; working closely with other HR and client staff to coordinate updates to employee records; preparing tax and other remittances for payment; responding to inquiries from employees about their pay; providing guidance to department representatives; calculating salary overpayments, including informing the staff member and processing the recovery; and other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience within a large, complex, unionized environment; completion of a two- or three-year post-secondary diploma in accounting or business administration is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered. Knowledge of Canadian taxation and legislation affecting employee payroll, and an understanding of payroll technology are required. The successful candidate will have strong organizational, time management, interpersonal and communication skills, experience working in a client-centered environment, and experience with Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of Banner HR and OnBase, as well as completion of the Payroll Compliance Professional designation from the National Payroll Institute, are considered definite assets.

SALARY $52,675 - $61,793 per annum (Non-Bargaining)

A 2% pay increase will be applied on April 1, 2025
