Demands, duties, qualifications
The primary purpose of this position is to register and admit (as required) clients of the Emergency Department, in addition to other routine filing and general clerical duties of the Emergency and Health Records Departments. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of the Team Leader/Supervisor of Health Records, in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Manager overseeing the Emergency Department, and report to the Regional Director of Health Information Management and Privacy.
Qualifications
:
- Graduation from High School or equivalent;
- Successful completion of a one year (Certificate Level) Office Administration Program;
- Successful completion of an approved Medical Terminology course;
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work co-operatively with clients, staff and the general public;
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision;
- Knowledge of the Meditech information system would be an asset;
- Ability to handle the physical demands of retrieving/moving chart volumes and filing;
- The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.
Duties and Responsibilities
: (Included, but not limited to):

- Utilizing the Meditech information system, registers and admits clients presenting to the Emergency Department, following established registration/admission procedures;
- Completes Meditech updates for Inpatients as required in the absence of Ward Clerk;
- Provides assistance and information on general inquiry from clients, hospital and medical staff;
- Takes phone calls and transfers calls accordingly;
- Obtains clients' charts and returns charts to medical records after regular work hours;
- Faxes Discharge Reports as requested;
- Checks and orders supplies weekly for Emergency;
- Checks assessment rooms and restocks on night shift;
- Maintains accurate statistical data;
- After midnight to 0800 hours assists with charts for nursing units;
- Distributes call list;
- Runs printout on computer for Emergency Doctors;
- Checks census sheets;
- Keeps filing system current and complete;
- Keeps knowledge current through continuing education;
- Represents unit on committees as requested/elected;
- Other related duties as required
