Title: Director of Operations

Position: Full Time Permanent

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, hours subject to flexibility (flexible work options are negotiable based on operational parameters). Some evening and weekend commitments are required.

Job Location: Sydney, NS

The Director of Operations will play a crucial leadership role within the organization, overseeing the day-to-day operational activities of the Community Living and ensuring that Breton Ability's business goals are achieved efficiently and effectively. As Breton Ability continues to align its efforts to meet the evolving needs of the community and comply with Human Rights remedies, this crucial role requires a leader who is adept at strategic leadership and operational excellence and committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity and innovation.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Operations is responsible for, but not limited to, working with the Department of Opportunity and Social Development, Eastern Regional Hub, and the technology systems to ensure smooth processes for managing service requests for individuals looking to utilize Breton Ability services and supports, process incident reports, and resource allocation.

Core Responsibilities:

Operational Management:

  • Oversee daily operations and ensure smooth execution of activities across departments.
  • Assist in the evaluation of emerging technologies and trends, recommending solutions to enhance operational efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Manage resources, monitor workflows, and track service delivery within the Nova Scotia Disability Support Program Remedy platform, ensuring that tasks are completed within established timelines.
  • Oversee and assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot issues and resolve problems that arise in the operations process.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Collaborate closely with other members of the Senior Management Team to develop and execute organizational strategies, ensuring alignment with Breton Ability's mission and objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Finance, IT, Human Resources, Good Life and Social Support, Organizational Effectiveness, etc.) to drive operational excellence.
  • Communicate operational goals, performance, and outcomes effectively to stakeholders, both internally and externally.

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute operational strategies aligned with Breton Ability's mission and long-term goals.
  • Work with senior management to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure operational efficiency.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Analyze existing processes and recommend improvements for better efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Monitor and adjust strategies based on data insights from the Nova Scotia Disability Support Program Remedy system to drive continuous improvement.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of operational managers and supervisors.
  • Foster a positive working environment that encourages collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, public relations, marketing, or a related field is required.
  • Master's degree in business administration or similar is preferred.
  • Minimum of six (6) years' proven experience in a senior leadership role, preferably in the healthcare or non-profit sector is required.
  • Previous experience leading or managing diverse teams in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • A deep understanding of disability rights and the Nova Scotia Human Rights Remedy is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with individuals of varying abilities is considered an asset.
  • Experience managing budgets, financial planning, analysis, and reporting is considered an asset.
  • Growth mindset and strategic thinker with a track record of driving operational processes and delivering results in a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to commit to the mission and values of Breton Ability while promoting inclusion, respect, and empowerment of individuals with diverse abilities to enhance their lives and well-being.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams toward achieving strategic objectives for the organization.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills when working with the Senior Management Team and Board of Directors.
  • Excellent change management and people management skills with the ability to guide the organization through change and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Excellent analytical thinking and innovative skills to push the organization forward.
  • Exude a high level of professionalism and integrity with highly developed interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, high regard for accuracy and the ability to provide high-quality outputs.
  • Valid driver's license and clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check are required.
