Cumberland Adult Network for Upgrading (CAN-U) is seeking a motivated and innovative Adult Learning Facilitator to join our passionate team. This contract position, running until the end of August (with the possibility of renewal), focuses on facilitating an employment program designed to empower learners by overcoming barriers, building essential skills, and achieving their goals. This position will also have the opportunity to facilitate various other programs.

Position Details

Position Title: Program Facilitator
Term: February - August 2025 (with the possibility of contract renewal)
Hours: 75 hours / 2 weeks
Wages: $26.93 - $28.02 / hour (negotiable based on experience)
Location: Amherst with the possibility of some travel within Cumberland County

Position Tasks

  • Plan, facilitate, and deliver multi-level lessons teaching subjects such as employment-focused classes, CAEC preparation, and programs tailored to your material strengths.
  • Use a variety of assessment methods to track learner progress, foster self-assessment, and help learners set personal, academic, and professional SMART goals.
  • Confidently assess learners' workforce readiness, identifying barriers, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and facilitate lessons that build key employment skills such as communication, teamwork, and professionalism, while supporting learners in applying for employment opportunities (e.g., resumes, job searching, interviews).
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment that encourages self-discovery, confidence building, and accountability for personal and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with community partners to connect learners with external resources, opportunities, and support systems, while representing CAN-U in community initiatives to strengthen partnerships.
  • Actively engage in program promotion and marketing, including creating social media content, campaigns, and materials (e.g., posters, videos) to attract learners and promote CAN-U programs.
  • Research, develop, and maintain classroom resources (e.g., hardware, software, and subscriptions) that support in-person and online learning, including managing digital platforms and learner accounts.
  • Maintain accurate and complete learner records (attendance, progress, learning plans) and prepare monthly reports for administrative purposes.
  • Encourage learners to reflect on their progress, take ownership of their goals, and celebrate their successes while offering alumni aftercare support.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and professional work environment, adhering to workplace policies and routines.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and incorporate innovative, relevant resources to enhance program delivery.

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree is an asset (a combination of education and experience will be considered).
  • Passionate about facilitating and innovating new programs. Can confidentially design, implement, and evaluate a variety of programs
  • Strong understanding of emotional intelligence, compassion, and mental health of diverse groups. Highly capable of working with at-risk adults
  • Experience working with adult learners in an educational setting with knowledge of essential skills, SMART goals, and adult learning principles.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and adapt to individual learner needs.
  • Proficient in using digital tools and technology including Google and Microsoft Suites
  • Confident in managing a multi-level classroom, inspiring and engaging learners of varying abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver innovative and engaging lessons using creative presentation techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to relate to learners in a positive and non-judgmental way.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Completion or willingness to obtain Nova Scotia Literacy Practitioner Training.
  • Experience in program promotion, marketing, and social media is considered an asset.
