Supervisor, Revenue Metering

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Supervisor of Revenue Metering to oversee the operations of NL Hydro's Meter Shop Department. Hydro is the only Measurement Canada-accredited revenue metering utility in the Province as per the Electrical Gas and Inspection Act. The incumbent lead a team responsible for revenue metering activities, ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of metering systems with industry standards and regulations to ensure Hydro's ongoing accreditation with adherence to the Quality Management System ISO-9001 standard and under Measurement Canada's annual audit. This role involves supervising the installation, maintenance, testing, and calibration of electric meters and related equipment while maintaining a focus on operational excellence, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage and lead the Meter Shop team, providing guidance, training, and development opportunities.
  • Lead long term asset planning and critical spares management activities for revenue metering and the preparation of capital budgets and refresh of the 5-year capital plan.
  • Support the installation and implementation of Hydro's transition to the use of drive-by automatic meter reading (AMR) system.
  • Monitor team performance and implement improvements to enhance productivity and accuracy.
  • Supervise the testing, calibration, and repair of revenue-grade electric meters, instrument transformers, and associated equipment.
  • Ensure metering installations comply with regulatory standards, company policies, and safety procedures.
  • Support automated meter reading systems and integration with utility operations.
  • Ensure that the requirements of NL Hydro's Quality Management System (QMS) for revenue metering are met and provide training as required.
  • Ensure that all industrial, commercial and residential meters are removed and replaced as required by Measurement Canada requirements.
  • Stay updated on metering technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes and ensure Hydro's metering standards, metering drawings and work methods are up to date.
  • Troubleshoot complex metering issues and provide expert-level technical support.
  • Serve as a point of contact for metering-related inquiries from internal departments and external customers.
  • Develop and manage department budgets, including procurement of meters, tools, and equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or successfully completed a two (2) or three (3) year electrical or electronic technology course from a recognized technical institute and either have completed the four (4) year training program established by the Corporation or have four (4) years experience as a technician in the discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electric utility metering.
  • In-depth knowledge of revenue-grade metering and instrument transformers.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic tools and software for metering systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
