The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to establish and lead Strait's geotechnical division. Role Description
As the Manager of Geotechnical Engineering, you will play a key role in the planning, analysis, and execution of geotechnical projects. Balancing multiple priorities, you excel in a fast-paced environment, consistently delivering high-quality results. Your responsibilities will include fostering strong relationships with colleagues and clients, promoting collaboration, and supporting the development of junior team members through mentorship.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Work with senior leadership to integrate geotechnical services into Strait Engineering's offerings and develop long-term growth strategies.
- Prepare and review contract specifications, detailed cost estimates, request for proposals, and tender documents.
- Provide contract oversight and administration including overseeing, directing, liaising and negotiating with contractors and/or consultants.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of geotechnical investigations, designs, and analyses, ensuring quality and alignment with client expectations.
- Preparing detailed engineering reports and providing technical recommendations.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions.
- Supporting project management activities, including client liaison and budget oversight.
- Lead business development efforts by identifying new opportunities, cultivating client relationships, and promoting geotechnical services across Nova Scotia.
- Provide assistance in the career development of junior staff including technical direction, coaching and mentoring.
- Upgrade knowledge and experience to evaluate and/or implement standards and practises in compliance with federal and provincial guidelines and legislation.
Your Qualifications
You bring extensive experience as a Geotechnical Engineer or Civil Engineer with a specialization in geotechnical applications. Consulting experience, particularly in municipal infrastructure and geotechnical services, is highly valued. Expertise in geotechnical investigations, foundation design, slope stability analysis, and earthworks is essential, and familiarity with related municipal projects is an asset. You hold a Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Geological Engineering and are registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). You thrive in collaborative environments and demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills, as evidenced through the preparation of technical reports, designs, proposals, and effective client interactions. Your proven project management capabilities combine technical expertise with strong leadership, enabling you to successfully deliver complex projects while fostering team success.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Geological Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in Nova Scotia.
- Years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience, including leadership or management roles.
- Expertise in geotechnical investigations, foundation design, slope stability, and related areas, particularly in municipal infrastructure.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., GeoStudio, Plaxis) and engineering design tools is preferred.
- Knowledge of and ability to use various computer work processing, spreadsheet and project scheduling programs and databases.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with a collaborative, solutions-focused mindset.
- Proven capabilities in writing reports and other technical documents.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
- A valid driver's license is required.
