POSITION: Casual Service Support (Food Service)

FACILITY: 105 Bed Nursing Home
POSITION SCOPE:
The Food Service Care Team Member, under the direction of the LPN Supervisor, will be responsible for delivering quality customer service through meal service to residents, in accordance with the Mission Statement, Standards, Policies and Procedures of Tidal View Manor (The Meadows). Responsibilities include assigned duties in preparation, assembly, and delivery of meals as well as proper cleaning, to ensure food safety standards are consistently maintained and exceeded. The Food Service Care Team Member contributes to continued quality improvement and supports all aspects of the Care Team, when it comes to the safety and well-being of residents. The position requires the successful candidate to be available for all shifts - days, nights, weekends and holidays. There may be an opportunity to cross train in the area of Environmental Services when operationally required. While our mask and Covid vaccination mandates have been lifted, you may be required to wear a mask for the duration of a shift in the event of an outbreak. We also encourage our Care Team members to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and other viruses.
WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE:
- Proven ability to relate well to the resident population, demonstrating a caring nature and sensitivity to their emotional, physical, spiritual, intellectual and social needs.
- Promote and support a positive work environment
- Grade XII or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Recent Food Handlers Course - or at least previously taken and willing to obtain
- Previous work experience in a food service environment
- Ability to hold in confidence all matters pertaining to residents, staff, co-workers and the organization.
- Strong communication skills; demonstrated ability to follow written and oral instructions; able to work effectively within a team and independently.
- Ability to use sound judgment and initiative to solve problems; ability to follow established procedures without constant supervision.
- Well organized, resourceful with demonstrated ability to time-manage and set priorities.
- Physically able to perform moderate and heavy lifting and the ability to withstand the demands of walking and standing most of the work shift
- Food Service workers will be exposed to various cleaning materials and assist with general cleaning within the neighborhood
- Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance; flexible to work all shifts and non-standard hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- As a member of the Support Services team, this individual is also responsible for sharing the care duties of facility pets.
WHAT WE'D LOVE YOU TO HAVE:
- Previous experience in a health care environment working with seniors and people with dementia
- Experience working with Cook/Chill food preparation, processes and equipment
- WHMIS & First Aid
