Department Overview:

TD Wealth takes a sophisticated and holistic approach to wealth planning and protection to provide highly personalized advice, solutions and service to clients.

Private Trust ("PT") builds dynamic and long-lasting relationships with high net worth clients. PT's highly integrated core team and other wealth partners work together as ONE TD to help clients build and protect their financial well-being over lifetimes. PT operates under The Canada Trust Company ("TCTC") legal entity.

Services and solutions provided by Private Trust include:

  • Will and estate planning
  • Financial care through TD Care Connect
  • Power of Attorney, Guardianship, Committeeship
  • Executor Services
  • Trustee Services
  • Investment Administration

Job Description:

  • Reporting to the AVP, Private Trust and Specialized Planning, the Senior Manager, Business Management will be responsible for the day-to-day management of key activities required to manage the Private Trust business (both personal and institutional business). The role is also responsible for providing guidance and oversight to partners who provide services supporting the Private Trust business (e.g. Finance, Operations, Data Analytics, etc.). This role has direct reports.

Specifically, the Senior Manager, Business Management will be accountable for the following:

  • Accountability for product shelf including traditional PT services, trustee for third-party registered plans and ongoing evolution/development of product opportunities as they arise. Preparation of business cases for new products or product enhancements. Ensure that product management function is audit-ready at all times. Includes pricing reviews and ongoing review and updates of fee schedules.
  • Development of innovative delivery solutions (e.g. centralization, digitization and automation) to manage the service capacity related to PT strategies. Ensure the platform remains competitive yet streamlined; that the products are meeting client needs and are relevant in the current marketplace.
  • Development of longer-term plans to grow revenues in the business, including enhancing the client and trust field experience, adding new solutions, product innovation and operational improvements.
  • Liaison between National Office and Operations; supporting front office with operational elements. Supporting reporting requirements of the business including support for audits at both the branch and National Office level.
  • Financial oversight of the PT business including review and assessment of monthly financials for insights and initiating and overseeing analytics of the business, resource planning and oversight of Compensation Plan.
  • Keeping abreast of domestic and international competitive intelligence.
  • Develop marketing and sales tools to support distribution.
  • Manage key enterprise stakeholder relationships and foster proactive and productive relationships with channel and support partners.
  • Executive and field presentation development to communicate product management strategy, key initiatives updates, etc. Development of presentations to educate partners regarding PT services.
  • Responsible for overseeing social media results.
  • The selected candidate will also be required to work on ad hoc projects as they arise e.g. assisting with the development of conferences.

Education/Accreditations:

  • University degree, in business or related discipline required, MBA would be an asset.
  • TEP designation would be an asset.
  • CIM, CPA or equivalent would be an asset.
  • Other financial / investment registrations or designations would be an asset.

Other Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

The successful candidate must have a strong mix of the following:

  • 10+ years' experience in the estate and trust industry; wealth management experience an asset.
  • In-depth trust industry knowledge of incapacity and estate planning and administration; ideally, experience with a trust company or other financial institution.
  • A track record of initiating enhancements and streamlining improvements and successful implementation of initiatives.
  • The aptitude and ability to deal with issues at a strategic level as well as at a detailed, 'hands-on' production level.
  • Collaborative problem-solver with exceptional critical-thinking skills; able to think through complex situations and provide recommendations for resolution.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills.
  • Process-oriented with attention to detail and a curious, questioning mind-set.
  • Strong analytical/ problem-solving skills and an ability to provide clear and concise direction in a positive and effective manner.
  • Comfortable in presenting/educating different groups about the Private Trust business.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with superior ability to make things happen through the use of impact and influence. The ability to work both as part of a team and independently to complete tasks.
  • General knowledge of tax, accounting and investments is an asset.
  • Experience managing a team is an asset.
