What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Manager; Cybersecurity Identity & Access Management, you will be Responsible for cybersecurity, including the security of computer software, hardware, network and communication resources, application and business applications. The Senior Security Analyst ensures the secure delivery of education and administration services to students and staff.
Specific accountabilities include:
- Performing security audits under the approval of the Manager, Digital Innovation & Technology, with direction from the CIO Digital Innovation & Technology, Director Internal Audit and/or Director Human Resources.
- Monitoring VPNs, server logs, firewall logs, intrusion detection logs, and network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity and reporting IT cybersecurity breaches and concerns.
- Ensuring the integrity, confidentiality and availability of information, at rest and in transit, residing in corporate databases, servers, and other systems internally and externally.
- Lead for all cybersecurity incident response, with accountability for all investigations and forensic work.
- Performing system testing in order to identify system vulnerabilities.
- Leading cybersecurity initiatives in the department and the college as a whole. Facilitation of cybersecurity presentations to student and staff groups.
- Conducting research with recommendations to management on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of security enhancement and development efforts.
- Provide inputs and guidance as a cybersecurity subject matter expert for College approved projects in conjunction with the PMO. Project planning and design activities to ensure new technology is implemented with cybersecurity in mind.
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
- The minimum educational qualification for this position is Bachelor of Computer Science degree, Advanced Cybersecurity diploma, or equivalent professional experience
- You have a minimum of 5 years of recent and related occupational experience in cybersecurity with an emphasis on project work and leadership in your subject area
- You have specific experience in:
- Threat analysis and risk assessment
- Knowledge and assessment experience in the following frameworks considered an asset:
- NIST CSF
- PCI DSS
- CIS Controls
- ISO 27001
- SOC2
- Network intrusion detection and prevention systems (NIDS, IDS, IPS)
- Network data capture, analysis and presentation
- The Microsoft Defender Suite of Tools
- User activity audits across systems
- The creation and maintenance of proper project documentation
- Knowledge Transfer and Training
- Develop and present content on new trends in cyber security to students, staff, and management.
- Provide cybersecurity functional guidance to other technical staff.
- Occupational experience that includes implementing national cybersecurity initiatives and working with CanSSOC, and the Canadian Center for Cyber Security considered an asset
- You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Windows Server and Desktop, Linux and MacOS, Microsoft Office Suite

- Must have a valid Nova Scotia driver's License.
- You hold any of the following certifications [or equivalent] an asset:
- Security+
- CEH [Certified Ethical Hacker]
- CND [Certified Network Defender]
- PNTP [Practical Network Penetration Tester]
- Or other industry recognized certifications
- You are dedicated to life-long learning
