Job Summary

NL Health Services Eastern zone invites expression of interest for a full-time (1.0 FTE) permanent salaried Pediatric Neurologist at the Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre in the Children and Women's Health (Child) Program in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. The Janeway provides the only tertiary level of care for children with neurological disorders in NL.

The Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre is a 71 bed, tertiary care referral hospital for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Janeway is a teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (MUNL) and has a residency program in Pediatrics and the successful candidate will be involved in medical student and resident teaching.

The neurology department has a busy outpatient department and in conjunction with the rehabilitation department neuromuscular and cerebral palsy clinics. The department has EEG inpatient and outpatient facilities, nursing and secretarial support. The responsibilities include clinical and teaching duties related to neurology, clinical research and shared duties with the other Pediatric Neurologist.

Through strong formal affiliations with Memorial University, and on the recommendation of the Discipline Chair, the successful candidate may be eligible for a clinical faculty appointment in the Academic Department of Pediatrics and may be expected to participate in collaborative research activities and scholarship (ie: teaching).

Required Qualifications

Education (Post-Secondary):

  • Must have certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification in Pediatric Neurology (or equivalent);
  • Must be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • Eligible for membership of the medical staff of NL Health Services;
  • Demonstrates commitment to patient-focused care and evidence-based practice;
  • Satisfy credentialing requirements of Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.

Hours of work: 75 hours bi-weekly

0800 - 1700 hours - may vary according to patient needs or needs of the

service to best utilize the time of the incumbent.

Remuneration: Salary and benefits for this position are to be paid in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador. Starting salary will be based on years of clinical experience.
