We are looking for a dynamic individual to be a part of our team. We are accepting applications for a Term (12 Month - with possible extention) Occupational Therapist ( Homecare OT Pilot )
Temporary 12 month term contract - Full Time (80hrs bi-weekly / Part Time will be considered at the request of the applicant
Hours: 80 Hours Biweekly ( 8 hour shifts) - Days/Evenings ( possibly on occations weekends)
Responsible to: Occupational Therapist - Lead for Homcare OT Pilot
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Occupational or Physiotherapy Therapy
- Current member in good standing with relevant professional college
- Annual CPR and First Aid Certification
- Three to five years of relevant work experience
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Demonstrated knowledge and / or experience in community or long-term care setting.
- Knowledge of community agencies and resources an asset.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of occupational therapy, use of adaptive equipment, wheelchairs, positioning chairs, and knowledge of potential hazards associated with.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally
- Knowledge of the following: Body Mechanics (e.g., safe lifting), Risk Management Procedures, Provincial Acts and Legislation, Safe Client Handling Tools and Equipment
- Strong verbal, and written communication and assessment skills with ability to develop, facilitate education sessions and interact positively with staff, client, families, and other health care providers.
- Adult education experience (an asset)
- Ability to demonstrate safe work practices and lift up to 44 lbs
- Ability to work independently and co-operatively in a multidisciplinary situation.
- Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing needs or service and program.
- Valid drivers license and access to reliable vehicle required: Ability to travel between sites and work outside of regular business hours on occasion.
- Ability to meet expectations of regular and consistent attendance within the corporate standard of 4%
Major Responsibilities:
- Providing occupational therapy supports within Central Home Care Agencies to facilitate reduction and workplace injuries and return to work.
- Develops injury prevention strategies
- Completes ergonomic assessments
- Provides support to program area Managers and Staff as a content expert i.e. safe client handling, participates in SCH/PACE train-the-trainer and supports training when required.
Tasks:
- Completion of ergonomic and safety assessments within client's homes, ergonomic assessments in offices, department sites, providing recommendations.
- Provides staff training on ergonomics, equipment, seating, skin integrity, and other related topics as required.
- As requested, leading on site safe client handling and mobility (SCHM) classes for new hires / refreshers.
- Provides support to program area managers and staff as a content expert.
- Collaborates with outside partners as needed to support employee health (i.e. maintains contact with vendors and OTs in community).
- Coordinates management and ordering of necessary equipment: contacts suppliers and vendors as required.
- Develops, implements and evaluates education and awareness programs such as ergonomic assessments, injury prevention and departmental safety training.
- Liaises with Aware NS, WCB and other health and safety organizations in relation to best practice initiative and training across the organisations
- Provides advice to managers regarding disability management and occupational health and safety concerns.
- Provides reports on the activity of the program in line with objectives and reporting requirements to the department.
- Participates as a member of committees as required
