Details:

The Capital Project Coordinator - Construction Projects is responsible to lead the planning, execution and closeout of numerous property services capital repair projects / upgrades for the Halifax Regional Centre for Education. The annual project portfolio is valued at approximately $15- $20M divided into at least ten (10) constructions projects across at least ten (10) school sites. These projects are expected to be completed within the fiscal year, with peak construction periods during Summer Break, Winter Break and March Break.

The Capital Project Coordinator will be a leader in project management process improvement at HRCE, monitoring and controlling all aspects of project management to ensure successful execution of the project management plan, within the primary constraints of budget and schedule. Stakeholder management is paramount, with a unique and evolving group of key stakeholders on each project.

The Capital Project Coordinator is responsible to monitor and control project safety, ensuring Occupational Health & Safety Standards and Department of Labour policies and procedures are followed. Service Vendors will require coaching to plan and adhere to additional safety measures required by HRCE, to protect students and staff and ensure learning is not impacted by Capital Projects. The Capital Project Coordinator is expected to be a leader in safe work management and documentation, utilizing and understanding the Asbestos Management Plan and Hazard Building Assessment documentation and updates.

The Capital Project Coordinator will report directly to the Capital Projects Manager, while working collaboratively as a member of the Operations Services team. Regular communications and reporting are expected with all stakeholders, including but not limited to Senior Management, Principals, school-based staff, the Operations Services team, contractors, consultants, and other authorities having jurisdiction.

Qualifications:

(a) Completion of a college or university program in a discipline related to construction contract administration, project management or equivalent training and experience;

(b) Minimum five (5) years experience working in the construction management field;

(c) Additional technical experience or qualified certification in a construction discipline considered an asset;

(d) Valid Nova Scotia Driver's Licence and access to a reliable vehicle to travel to required sites;

(e) Public sector work experience is considered an asset;

(f) Education sector work experience is considered an asset

Rate of Pay:

This is a Professional Employees Group (PEG) position classified on the Education Entities Non-Union Compensation Framework at Band 8 with an annual range between $70,265 - $87,832.
