Northwood is currently accepting applications for a Physiotherapist to join our team in Bedford!
Qualifications:
- Master of Science in Physiotherapy or Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy
- Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapy and eligibility for membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association
- Two years of relevant work experience
- Long Term Care experience is considered an asset
- Complex geriatric management experience considered an asset
- Knowledge of the following: Falls Prevention Methods / Risk Management Procedures, Principles of geriatric restorative care, Neurologic, orthopedic, cardio, and respiratory treatments, Proper Body Mechanics
- Possess the following abilities: Follow employer policies, Problem Sensitivity, Lifts and Transfers, Deductive and Inductive Reasoning, Persuasion.
- Must have the following attributes: Strong Communication, Interpersonal and Communication, Problem Solving, Time Management, Critical Thinking, Judgement and Decision Making, Hands on mobilization
- Valid Nova Scotia Driver's license and access to a motor vehicle required
- Must be able to maintain regular and consistent attendance within Northwood Standards.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assesses resident needs in a physiotherapy context (e.g. mobility equipment, assistance, restorative potentials)
- Provides one on one therapeutic physiotherapy treatment to residents
- Designs physiotherapy treatment programs for Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) to implement/ carry out and monitors resident progress in these programs
- Collaborates with nursing team to plan interventions for residents
- Instructs and educates internal stakeholders (e.g. mobility, equipment, care needs)
- Maintains physiotherapy gym (e.g. equipment, schedules, files, funding requests)
Tasks
- Conducts comprehensive assessments of resident's capabilities and needs, the establishment of goals, and implementation of treatment plans
- Identifies and documents goals, anticipated progress, and plans for re-evaluation in the context of restorative care and residents
- Works with resident to set goals, plan, and implement interventions
- Engages in Physiotherapy Service and quality improvement activities
- Prepares assessment reports
- Develops and maintains communication links with multiple internal and external clients
- Performs and documents initial assessments, evaluating data to identify problems prior to intervention
- Plans, prepares, and carries out individually designed treatment programs to maintain, improve, or restore, physical functioning, alleviate pain, or lessen the impact of physical dysfunction in residents
- Writes and submits funding requests as required
- Records prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in residents' chart
- Instructs residents and families in treatment procedures to be continued at home
- Performs other related duties as required
Hours of Work: 80 Hours bi-weekly (8 hour shifts)
Start Date: Immediately
Salary: As per the Northwood scale
