About the Role

As a Laboratory Technologist IIA you will be assigned to Laboratory - Transfusion/Blood Bank Application. The Laboratory Technologist IIA design and build workflows that take advantage of this integration. The Laboratory Technologist IIA will be expected to be cross trained between 1-2 applications.

The Epic solution requires certification, this translates to the successful applicant completing any Epic Track Prerequisites, participation in Epic training /education sessions, completing self-assessments and successfully challenge a final examination.

Travel to Verona, Wisconsin for training will be an expectation, therefore a valid passport will be required.

The Laboratory Technologist IIA reports directly to the Informatics Manager- Laboratory. You will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Advocate for the project in the Laboratory
  • Collaborate with representatives from all roles within the clinical and Laboratory areas to participate in workflow discovery sessions
  • Facilitate and lead group meetings such as workshops, and document outcomes
  • Analyze workflows and documentation, including use case development.
  • Analyze the clinical/technical information requirements of the clinical area through consultation with managers and professional staff
  • Work with other clinical application implementation teams to identify ways the applications support workflows and configure Clinical Pathology accordingly

  • Collaborate with Laboratory, Physician, Nursing, Allied Health and Leadership Champions
  • Ensure that key Subject Matter Experts are engaged in the implementation, specifically in the details for workflow analysis, build, and testing
  • Responsible for maintaining dependable and accurate data in Health Information Systems while ensuring these systems support clinical standards, best practice in applicable clinical areas throughout the province
  • Consult with respective SMEs, program management, Professional Association representatives, Professional Practice Consultants, or others to ensure application meets professional standards of documentation
  • Work with end-users to define, execute and track test scenarios and ensure appropriate end user training
  • Establish and maintaining effective working relationships with clients across all levels of the organization
  • Effectively communicate and document business and IT information in line with established processes and procedures processes and procedures
  • Provide input and advice on IT solution strategies, plans and deployments
  • Ensure adherence to governance and Digital Health Division standards (e.g., privacy and security)
  • Design and build workflows within this application, and possibly integrate with other applications such as Transfusion Medicine, scheduling, ASAP, OR, Medical Imaging, billing, etc.
  • Provide oversight, advice, and guidance to high paced teams
  • Accountable for the implementation, integration, support, education, evaluation, and enhancement of the Epic clinical software applications.
  • Support change management and deployment of new software systems.
  • Manage the implementation, support, and recommendation for enhancement of clinical software applications in the health system.
  • Develop and implementing policies and procedures for providing support for clinical applications in the health system.
  • Consult with application users, program managers, information systems staff, application support personnel, vendors/private businesses, and public stakeholders to identify implementation issues and work with management of the program to resolve issues.
  • Develop application training materials and manuals for users of clinical applications within the health system and provide application training when required.
  • Facilitate feedback and communication among end users, management, and the regional and provincial stakeholder groups through participation in regional and provincial committees and user groups to promote system usage and improve data consistency.
  • After go-live, continue to be actively involved in communicating with end users to modify and maintain proper user security, reports, and other functionality necessary to maximize the efficiency of workflows within the clinical area
  • Play a critical role in the configuration, implementation, support, and recommendations for enhancement of clinical software applications within the health system
  • Optimize use of current reporting capability in the clinical applications and support the development of additional report specifications when required for the effective management of client programs and service delivery through advocacy, training, and consultation with program managers.
  • Analyze the clinical information requirements of the organization through consultation with managers and professional staff and evaluating opportunities for using clinical applications to meet identified needs and improve efficiencies.
  • Facilitate the review of new clinical information systems with prospective users and provide feedback from the consultations to the management team.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders at all levels to review and assess application usage and data quality through periodic audits for compliance with regional, best practice and legislative standards, and identifying strategies to improve compliance.

About You

Your education and experience include:

  • Graduation from a recognized (accredited) program with a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology supplemented by a Baccalaureate Degree (Information
  • Management, Computer Science, Technology or a health-related field) is required.
  • A minimum of four (4) years within the last six (6) working as a Laboratory Technologist in Core Laboratory (Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Hormone Chemistry, Renal Lab, Mass Spec. etc.) experience is required.
  • Certification as a general MLT and current registration with the NL Council of Health Professionals is required.
  • Current registration and member in good standing with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is required.
  • Direct knowledge in Clinical Laboratory workflows (both inside and outside the Laboratory environment), regulatory requirements, and patient experience is required.
  • Direct experience in an IT project environment is an asset.
  • Familiar with Laboratory middleware's and points of integration/integration software is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Lab instruments and points of integration/integration software (DI)
  • Extensive knowledge of current trends and practices related to eHealth clinical information systems.
  • Technical aptitude to quickly learn how other applications work and apply his/her understanding throughout the implementation and during maintenance
