Title : Regional Coordinator - Creating Safe Environments and Disaster Risk Reduction

Employee Working Location : In-person (Kettle and Stony Point, ON)

Employment Status: Permanent Full-time

Salary Band : $ 48,882 - $61,102 / year

In this role, you will :

  • Facilitate Community mobilization while following cultural protocols, traditions and practices to support the Community and strengthen approaches to wellness and safety in the areas of creating safe environments and disaster risk reduction.
  • Provide technical and cultural support to Canadian Red Cross Team, ensuring engagement with Kettle and Stony Point and other Communities as aligned to commitments within the Canadian Red Cross Indigenous Peoples Framework and Community Engagement Strategy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with members of Communities and Canadian Red Cross to support achievement of project objectives in ways that promote local leadership action and capacity.
  • Organize community-based activities such as focus group discussions, sharing circles and training sessions as identified by Communities.
  • Communicate information regarding project and organizational challenges.
  • Contribute to the timely completion of administrative processes and project management tasks relevant to the communications objectives of this project.

  • A strong understanding of cultural and communications protocols.
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of gender equality, diversity and inclusion as well as child protection.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build key relationships and mobilize community members.
  • Ability to identify strengths within community and utilize those strengths to support the project goals.
  • Ability to apply cultural teachings and practices within the project.
  • Possess computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Create connections with neighboring communities to build relationships as well as provide support as needed.
  • The official languages recognized within the Canadian Red Cross are English and French however demonstrated skills and ability to communicate in an or multiple Indigenous language(s) or ability to communicate and adapt within Indigenous protocol is highly desirable.
  • Considered an asset :
    • Understanding of strengths, challenges and safety risks within Communities.
    • Readiness to be deployed for support to Emergency Operations Team when needed.
    • Post-secondary education.

Working Conditions :

  • The majority of the work will be performed in a clean and comfortable environment, however travel throughout the assigned geography will be required.
  • May include moderate to long hours sitting and using computers and office equipment.
  • May be required to light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time up to 18 kg.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours as needed for community events.
