Demands, duties, qualifications
Reporting to the Director of Mental Health and Addictions for the Labrador Grenfell zone, the incumbent is
responsible for the provision of administration, planning and development of a Stepped Care approach to
residential and housing support for Mental Health and Addictions patients in Happy Valley Goose Bay.
This is a new role that reflects the need within the zone for transitional/supportive housing and will
support the Director of Mental Health and Addictions with the development of an operational plan of a
stepped down residential supportive care model for patients with cognitive disabilities and mental health &
addictions concerns. The incumbent will work closely with the Regional Management Team towards the
ongoing development, maintenance, and implementation and monitoring of policies and processes, that
contribute to improved quality and continuity of client care. This role will also provide leadership to and
support the expansion of the Opioid Dependence Treatment program and the Managed Alcohol Program.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Community Nursing or Health Administration
preferred.
- Experience in a leadership and/or clinical supervision role.
- Preferred 5 years' experience in clinical mental health and /or addictions practice, including
counseling with individuals, families, and groups.
- Experience working in the area of harm reduction preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of mental health and addictions assessment and intervention methods.
- Eligibility for registration with appropriate regulatory body.
- Valid driver's license.
- The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.
Duties:(Included but not limited to)
- Promotes a positive working environment by facilitating the teamwork process and maintaining
open communication with Mental Health and Addictions staff.
- Participate in provincial initiatives on stepped care housing models.
- Knowledgeable of stepped down facilities and wraparound community-based support for clients.
- Identifying opportunities for housing advocacy and collaborate with community partners and other
key stakeholders.
- Implementing a stepped care approach to the assessment of appropriate housing options for
clients.
- Facilitate linkages between Provincial Action Plans e.g., Health Accord, Alcohol Action Plan,
towards Recovery and Our Path to Resiliency to ensure wraparound care for MHA clients.
- Participates in Mental Health and Addictions program and policy development, implementation,
and evaluation.
- Manages the budgets designated for local program areas, including annual budgeting, monthly
variance reporting, and responding to purchase requests.
- Participates in on-call rotation.
- Work in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders, community partners, individuals
with lived and living experiences, to ensure continuity and coordination across program areas and
operations of the housing options being proposed.
- As we continue to implement other recommendations from newly developed action plans the
incumbent will assume other responsibilities.
- Travel may be required.
