Definition of work:
The Addictions Officer is a leadership position providing expertise and coordination in the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of health promotion and prevention initiatives within Mental Health and Addictions. The position consults on prevention opportunities and strategies with staff of Central Health, other health professionals, non-government organizations, community groups and the general public. The incumbent will conduct community needs assessments and work with communities to support the implementation and evaluation of researched, best practice strategies to meet their identified needs. The incumbent must have considerable knowledge of Best Practice standards in the areas of health promotion, prevention and community development as well as, significant knowledge and skill in the use of electronic platforms such as power point, ZOOM, Microsoft Teams and other E-Mental Health platforms. The incumbent must have knowledge of best practices in the area of group facilitation and communication and be skilled in public speaking. This position operates as part of an interdisciplinary Community Mental Health and Addictions team and will be required to provide clinical support as necessary. Travel throughout the Central Region is required. Evening and weekend work are required. A flexible work schedule is available. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centred care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

Required qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree in a health-related discipline, supplemented by preparation at the graduate level and with related experience and professional development.
• Current registration with the appropriate licensing body within Newfoundland and Labrador.
• 2 years current experience (within the last five years) in a Mental Health and Addictions setting.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience of professional addictions and concurrent disorder, Best Practice Standards as it relates to assessment, treatment, planning, counselling, evaluation and Health promotion and prevention.
• Proven leadership qualities, exceptional interpersonal, facilitation and problem- solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, work independently, take initiative and ensure that duties are performed in a timely and confidential manner.
• Demonstrated skill in the development, implementation and delivery of Health promotion, prevention and training initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to function in a diverse and changing environment.
• Demonstrated ability in skill assessment, interviewing and crisis intervention techniques, Mental Health and Addictions programming, and delivery methods.
• Demonstrated analytical, as well as, oral and written communication skills.
• Use of a private vehicle and valid driver license are a condition of employment.

• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
