Definition of work:
Reporting to the Director of Mental Health & Addictions, this position is accountable for the coordination, support and day-to-day management of client care services on the Mental Health and Addictions Inpatient Unit at Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre (CNRHC). The Mental Health and Addictions Inpatient unit is a specialized acute care unit that services individuals with complex medical and psychiatric needs. In addition to psychiatric risks, these patients are at multiple risks due to complications of psychotropic medications, medical illness, neurological disease, substance intoxication/withdrawal, traumatic injury and/or medical complications of self-harm. This inpatient unit cares for a diverse population, including young adults and geriatric patients. This position will also be responsible for other mental health and addictions programs and/or services, such as the Mobile Crisis Response Teams.
The successful candidate will be accountable for providing leadership, clinical nursing oversight and supervision, ensuring evidence based nursing practice and fostering client centered care. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with physician colleagues and other program managers, to ensure continuity and coordination across program areas and operations of the organization. Responsibilities will include managing human resources; program development and evaluation; implementing and maintaining best practices in Mental Health & Addictions services; fiscal and risk management; patient safety and quality improvement. The successful candidate will be responsible for working collaboratively with other Regional Managers, Mental Health & Addictions Services to standardize program planning and operations to ensure equitable and efficient service delivery. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve employee and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements. Rotational on-call and regional travel will be required.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership to support innovation and creativity in client centered program and policy development that reflects best practice, maximizes resources, technology and partnerships internally and externally.
• Promote program integration to ensure seamless care for clients.
• Leverage opportunities to encourage client feedback and/or participation in program and policy development.
• Motivate and empower staff to identify opportunities to improve the client experience in all Mental Health & Addictions services/programs.
• Monitor risk and implement strategies to decrease risks to clients and workers.
• Complete fiscal monitoring to ensure effective and efficient use of resources.
• Collect, collate and analyze data to inform the evaluation of Mental Health & Addictions services.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and other committee work in association Mental Health & Addictions services/programs.

Required qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree in Nursing.
• Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Five years of nursing experience.
• Proven experience in partnership development, program planning and evaluation, project management and leading quality/change initiatives.
• Ability to collaborate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders and function effectively in a high pressure, diverse and changing environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of regulatory and legislative requirements within nursing practice.
• Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Dynamic leadership style which demonstrates emotional maturity, self-awareness and evidence of value-based leadership focused on engaging others, developing coalitions, and achieving results.
• Proven negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Highly motivated and able to apply his/her creativity in standardizing professional nursing practice across all facilities and programs, while recognizing the uniqueness of practice in specialty areas.
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of Lean Health Care; Person and Family Centered Care; and the leadership capabilities within the LEADS framework
• Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)
• Class 05 driver's license and the ability to travel.
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.

Preferred qualifications:
• Three years' experience in Mental Health and Addictions Services within the last five years; preferably direct experience with acute care inpatient psychiatric nursing and/or emergency psychiatric care.
• CNA certification in Mental Health & Addictions.
