Demands, duties, qualifications

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Infection Prevention & Control Program, the Clinical Epidemiologist is a key member of the Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) Team and is responsible for leading the establishment, maintenance, development, analysis and reporting of targeted, complex surveillance systems (surgical site infections, ARO surveillance, central line infections) and health care associated infection surveillance systems within NL Health Services. Other responsibilities include investigation of hospital outbreaks, evaluation of infectious disease control interventions, and development of applied epidemiological research and translation of surveillance data into institutional policy. Participates in the enhancement of current surveillance systems. Manages the implementation, analysis and reporting of hand hygiene compliance audits. Manages data collection, analyzes data, interprets results and creates regular surveillance reports. Prepares Infection Prevention & Control annual reports as required. The Clinical Epidemiologist promotes safe environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.

Job Qualifications

Education

Master's degree in Clinical Epidemiology or Epidemiology in a Public Health related discipline is required.

PhD preferred.

Experience

Minimum of three years of experience in health care/public health research within the last five is required.

Experience with data sets and analyzing data is required.

Experience with research software and Microsoft software is required.

Experience with hospital based surveillance data collection, analysis and reporting is preferred.

Experience in a health care setting is preferred.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

Knowledge of epidemiological research methodology and surveillance activities.

Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques and the appropriate application of these approaches and the ability to conduct such analysis.

Knowledge of project management techniques and experience in leading surveillance teams to deliver accurate findings in a timely manner under minimum supervision or direction.

Demonstrated knowledge in the design, implementation and/or evaluation of surveillance systems.

Demonstrated knowledge of statistical and data management.

Demonstrated ability to manage multi surveillance projects.

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with staff at all levels within the organization, both verbally and in writing.

Demonstrated ability to work independently under pressure, highly motivated and in collaboration with others.
