Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia (HSNS), established under the NS Society's Act in 1963, is responsible for providing audiology services to Nova Scotians of all ages, and speech-language pathology (SLP) services to preschool children, home-schooled children, and adults. HSNS delivers integrated and standardized provincial services, in collaboration with its partners in 36 clinic sites, located in over 25 communities.

About the role
HSNS is accepting applications for the position of a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Training and Data Assistant to provide EMR (Electronic Medical Record) training and support, data mining and reporting, and administrative support to clinical managers.
Reporting to the Director, Pediatric and Autism Hearing and Speech Services, and in collaboration with the HSNS management team, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- EMR training and follow-up (EMR orientation and training of new staff/students, audits, tracking of EMR issues)
- supporting data management and reporting (key performance indicators, quality improvement data, ad hoc and customized reports)
- supporting quality improvement initiatives
- administrative support for clinical managers (data gathering, information management, scheduling)
- working collaboratively with other administrative professionals as part of a collective team.
This position has provincial responsibilities and can be based at any HSNS site in the province. The home base will be determined based on operational requirements and may include consultation with the successful candidate. This position may involve travel within Nova Scotia, including to the Provincial Center in Halifax. The regular schedule is 5 days per week, 7 hours per day, however flexibility in scheduling may be required.
What we are looking for:
- Successful completion of post-secondary education. Emphasis in health administration, business, or health informatics courses is preferred. Equivalent experience and knowledge will be considered.
- Minimum of three years related experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in current Microsoft applications (e.g., Excel, PowerBI, SharePoint).
- Knowledge of data mining and reporting strategies for quality improvement purposes and audits of client record systems (e.g., MedAccess).
- Experience in training, mentoring, and/or coaching.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Valid Nova Scotia driver's license.
- Effective communication skills, including proficiency in written and spoken English (proof of proficiency may be required).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Candidates will have to demonstrate current immunization within 6 months of start date.
Assets:
- Knowledge of Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia clinical services and supports.
- Advanced user of MedAccess client record system.
- Experience with Visio and Adobe products.
- Preferred formal training in process improvement including Lean Six Sigma, database management and data analytics.
- Quality improvement project work.
