Job Summary The Genetic Counsellor III works with the Clinical Translational Genomics leadership team based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. This is a hybrid genetic counselling position encompassing both a clinic and laboratory component. This position will provide genetic counselling to patients seen by the newly established longitudinal High Risk Cancer Clinic and facilitate mainstreaming of clinical genomic testing by medical specialists with respect to education, selection, ordering and interpretation of genetic/genomic testing.

The successful candidate will create HPO terms for sequencing cases from clinical notes, perform variant assessment and classification (ACMG/ClinGen guidelines) and contribute to drafting clinical reports. Other responsibilities include the development of clinic/laboratory-related documentation (including but not limited to consent forms and requisitions), involvement with consent for research projects, and other related duties as specified by the Clinical Translational Genomics leadership team.
The Genetic Counsellor is an integral member of an interprofessional team providing specialized genetic/genomic expertise at NL Health Services, including medical specialists. The Counsellor works with a high level of autonomy and independence. There is close collaboration with the Provincial Medical Genetics Program Genetic Counsellors and Medical Geneticists. Work is supervised by the Clinical Translational Genomics leadership team. As this hybrid genetic counselling position encompasses both a clinic and laboratory component, preference will be given to applicants who can work onsite.

Job Demands
By applying for this job, you acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to):
A high level of alertness and concentration is required when documenting client information and conducting counselling sessions in consultation with the Geneticist or individually.
Occasionally works in awkward positions, requires constant sitting and occasional standing/walking.
Regularly uses fine finger precision work to operate the computer mouse.
Regularly, lifts objects less than 10 lbs.

Job Qualifications
Master's Degree in Genetic Counselling is required.
Board certification or eligibility for certification with Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CAGC) and/or American Board of Genetic Counselling (ABGC) is required. This certification must be successfully completed within 18 months of hire.
Familiarity with the provision of telephone and Telehealth genetic counselling is an asset.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills, case and time management skills, analytical skills, and the ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrated strong computer skills including the ability to use Windows and Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to become proficient using new computer programs.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
