If you answered YES, you may be our next Development Officer. In this role, you'll support the values and mission of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation by raising funds, engaging with donors, sponsors, and program clients, and enhancing our overall fundraising profile/events within the community.

We are looking for an outgoing and organized person as the Development Officer. The ideal candidate will be a professional individual, who will effectively raise funds, coordinate fundraising events and campaigns, support charitable programs including patient assistance and two retail enterprises (coffee and gift shops), and manage office administration while championing the mission of the organization and engaging our supporters, volunteers and clients.

Position Overview

  • Building, maintaining, and enhancing community relationships
  • Administering and managing financial and donor information
  • Office management
  • Oversight for Coffee and Gift Shops
  • Contributing to the success of fundraising initiatives, events, and program delivery
  • Reporting to the Managing Director, the Development Officer will be passionate about community service and compassionate to those in need

Major Responsibilities:

  • Implement and evaluate fundraising initiatives in support of the Foundation including the following: retail sales, campaigns, and events
  • Support proposal preparation for existing and potential major donors
  • Build relationships with new and existing donors: identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining the donor management system, some accounting, and internal spreadsheets (Raiser's Edge, Sage, and Excel experience considered assets)
  • Program support and accurate record keeping. Programs include Cumberland Cancer Assistance, Palliative Assistance, Mental Health & Addictions Assistance

Required Education and Experience:

  • University degree or community college diploma in a related field or equivalent background
  • Experience in fundraising, event planning
  • Experience in the non-profit or charitable sector is considered an asset
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is essential
  • Sage Accounting experience is considered an asset
  • Raisers' Edge experience considered an asset (training available)
  • Knowledge of CRA Charity regulations an asset

  • Superior communication skills (both written and verbal) and well-developed interpersonal skills
  • The ability to think strategically and work independently
  • Ability to use sound judgment and maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities with a sense of urgency to achieve goals
  • Experience and contacts within the philanthropic community is considered an asset
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary
  • Financial acuity
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and strong planning and project management skills
  • Strong sense of commitment and accountability for the roles and responsibilities of the position
  • Valid Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle

Remuneration: This is a full-time position with a starting salary of $58,000 - $62,000 commensurate with experience + a competitive benefits package

The Cumberland Health Care Foundation has been the fundraising arm for the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre since 1993. In addition to raising funds through special events, memorial gifts, honorariums, gifts in kind, legacy giving, and general donations, the Foundation manages and oversees numerous healthcare enhancement programs within Cumberland County.
