Heavy Duty Mechanic

Primary Function:
The position of Heavy Duty Mechanic is part of the unionized trade personnel for Local 1825 ILA Gear men Union. The position works on Terminal equipment like Terminal Tractors, Front End Loaders, Trailers, Forklifts, Pickup Trucks, Rubber Tire Gantries (RTG's) in order to ensure that the detailed task is done to the full requirements of the maintenance schedule and/or repair procedure. The position ensures that the Terminal equipment is maintained and in good safe working condition, while meeting the requirements of Terminal/ vessel operations in a cost-effective manner.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Education/Experience:
A diploma from a recognizable educational institution for the trade of Heavy Duty Mechanic and/or Inter-Provincial Red Seal Certification for Heavy Duty Mechanic. The position requires at least 5 to 6 years industry-related Mechanical experience. The ability to trouble shoot electrical systems and can-bus systems, The ability to Trouble shoot hydraulic systems and carry out repairs. The ability to use engine software for trouble shooting electrical issues and derate issues. The candidate needs to be able to go up in a manlift to carry out repairs at heights. The candidate is required to have his own tools and toolbox.
Wages and Benefits
The wage is $49.79 per hour. Pension plan and health benefits are available after a waiting period as determined by the Union.
Hours of Work:
The candidate is required to work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- Basic industrial working environment.
- Requirements to work in the shop and outdoors which is the work environment for heavy equipment.
- Ability to work independently once tasks are assigned.
