The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of CAA Atlantic's fleet operations, ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of emergency road services. This role involves managing vehicle maintenance, coordinating fleet replacements, and directly leading and mentoring fleet drivers to achieve operational excellence.

The Fleet Manager is pivotal in, fostering a strong commitment to safety standards, and cultivating a culture of continuous improvement. By applying industry best practices and embracing innovative solutions, the Fleet Manager enhances operational efficiency and ensures the consistent delivery of exceptional roadside assistance to Members.

Working Conditions:

  • The role operates in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment where managing multiple priorities and deadlines is critical.
  • Requires manual dexterity and the ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Involves working in shop environments with heavy vehicle repairs and building maintenance tasks.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation for emergency fleet needs and after hours support for escalated issues.
  • This position may require occasional travel within the Atlantic Canada region for training, team support, meetings or conferences.
  • The role involves extended periods of computer use and requires the ability to adapt to rapidly changing operational demands.
Responsabilités

Fleet Operations Management:

  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and servicing of fleet vehicles, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Execute fleet purchase, replacement, and disposal strategy to align with business growth and operational needs.
  • Maximize fleet utilization by implementing effective scheduling and operational practices.
  • Manage fleet branding and re-branding initiatives to maintain alignment with corporate identity.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate the performance of the fleet team, including supervisors, mechanics, drivers, and support staff.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance employee skills and performance.
  • Conduct regular ride-alongs and safety assessments to ensure compliance and improve operational efficiency.
  • Handle staffing requirements, including recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and performance management.

Safety & Risk Management:

  • Champion safety initiatives by actively participating in Joint Occupational Health & Safety (JOH&S) programs and supporting accident prevention strategies to promote a safe and secure working environment.
  • Complete safety incident reports, support incident investigations, and provide recommendations to Safety team to minimize risks.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and safety protocols.

Process Improvement & Innovation:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for process improvements, driving efficiencies in fleet and roadside assistance operations.
  • Implement data-driven strategies devised by Executive Leadership to optimize fleet costs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate innovative technologies and marketing strategies into fleet operations.

Budgeting & Financial Management:

  • Execute and monitor the fleet operations budget, ensuring spending aligns with budgetary targets.
  • Collaborate with finance to support cost analysis and budget forecasting, providing insights to maintain financial accountability and optimize resource allocation.
  • Evaluate repair costs to determine the most cost-effective solutions, utilizing internal and external resources.
  • Provide support to finance teams in budget-related projects.

Member & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Interface with Members to address concerns, resolve complaints, and ensure service excellence.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors and suppliers, to meet operational goals.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in business, operations management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in the automotive or fleet management industry, 3+ years in a leadership position
  • Proven experience managing large diverse teams and leading operational improvements.
  • Extensive knowledge of fleet maintenance, including vehicles over 4,500 kg up to 33,000 kg
  • Advanced problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Red Seal Mechanic designation is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience in Auto Club would be considered an asset.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and coaching abilities with a hands-on approach.
  • Strong understanding of applicable Provincial and Municipal transportation laws, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other fleet management software.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships and drive team performance.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities, with a focus on multitasking in high-pressure environments.
  • Proficient in project management and strategic planning capabilities.
  • Dedicated to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
