The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Specialist, Closing Cost to join our Corporate Accounting team in Toronto.

This is a permanent hybrid position.

As a Specialist, Closing Cost you will manage the cost closing process for all Base Metals entities, ensuring accurate and timely completion of financial activities related to expenditures and project closing. Your experience and skill will allow you to plan and execute the strategic actions and initiatives identified by the leadership in Global Cost and Investment Management, ensuring the adoption of the best market practices in management and control in a long-term view.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Validation and management of the SAP-CO Masterdata, SAP-Project Masterdata and IBS (budget tool) Masterdata, such as the creation and management of profit centers, cost center, work breakdown structure, GL accounts, plants, production phases, assessments cycles, statistic indexes, distribution cycles, internal orders, production orders and profiles, ensuring adherence to Vale's business rules, identifying systemic risks, and proposing improvements.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders, including project managers, finance teams, and vendors, to reconcile costs, analyze variances, and provide financial insights for decision-making.
  • Creation and maintenance of cost and investment SAP Master Data, parameterization of Investment Master Data, maintenance of the Chart of Accounts of the group's companies, cost center and profit center management, ensuring the correct interpretation of corporate laws and IFRS regulatory resolutions, aiming the standardizing concepts, governance and process that guarantee the recognition, integrity, compliance and quality of the results.
  • Execute, coordinate and oversee the month-end cost closing process for all expenditures and projects (including the mirroring projects activities), ensuring adherence to timelines and financial guidelines, verifying the accuracy and completeness of cost data, ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Prepare financial reports summarizing expenses, projects and COGs, variances, and overall financial performance for management review and to present to the board of directors of base metals. Analyze cost trends, identify cost-saving opportunities, and provide recommendations for process improvements. Responsible for information on Cost of Product Sold, Cost of Service Provided and Product Inventory, as well as the load on the consolidation system and quantitative and qualitative analysis.

About You

Education:

  • University Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience

Skills:

  • Have a deep knowledge of the flowsheet of each operation (mines, mills, refineries, smelter) in Canada, Brazil, Indonesia, UK and Japan, to be able to design the cost model of all base metals companies and execute the proper cost allocation.
  • Understand the main functionalities of the CO, PS, FI, FM, MM modules in SAP, being able to use the functionalities to support the work on a daily basis.
  • Advanced knowledge of microsoft excel (Vlookup, Pivot Tables, Conditional formatting, Macros etc)
  • Ability to work independently & a mindset of process Improvement
  • Knowledge of risk mitigation and control efficiency
  • Strong analytical skills to analyse processes flows for complex processes
  • Good communication skills
