FFAW-Unifor is seeking a Fish Price Negotiations/Policy Manager to join our team. Reporting to the President, this position will be the lead support in organizing and conducting annual negotiations on fish prices, pursuant to the Fishing Industry Collective Bargaining Act. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for research, preparation of material, and development of submissions for fish price negotiations and arbitrations. Fish price negotiations are of the utmost importance to FFAW's fish harvesting members and require significant attention and time. As such, this position will require regular evening and weekend work, particularly between the months of March and June.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive research on markets and trade issues on a variety of fish species
  • Develop a comprehensive knowledge of the legal and procedural components of fish price negotiations in the province
  • Identify gaps in information and investigate solutions to these issues
  • Monitor several market and currency databases
  • Organize and explain key negotiation documents and points to negotiation committees
  • Assist in the drafting and editing of arbitration submissions
  • Assist in the preparation and conduct of arbitrations
  • Coordinate and lead the development of Union policy on a variety of issues
  • Attend meetings with members and other stakeholder
  • Develop and deliver presentations at a variety of events
  • Engage in policy research and the coordination of policy work by other FFAW staff.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in negotiations/dispute resolution and policy development
  • Strong writing skills, with an emphasis on persuasive writing
  • Strong verbal communication skills with a proven ability to clearly explain complex issues
  • Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation and policies
  • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining a quality of work and an attention to detail
  • Significant experience working with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision as part of a larger collaborative effort
  • Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
