Job Summary

The Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Program at NL Health Services, are seeking Full-time Anatomic Pathologists at the Laboratory Medicine Program of NL Health Services. Subspecialty expertise or training in either of the following areas is considered a priority: Breast Pathology, Gastrointestinal & Liver Pathology, Gynecological Pathology. Applicants with other subspecialty expertise are welcome to apply.

The successful candidate will join a group of 16 pathologists, hematopathologists, genetics scientists, medical microbiologists and clinical chemists providing hospital laboratory services. Our laboratory currently processes approximately 40,000 surgical pathology specimens per year. On-call coverage and autopsies are shared equitably within the group. The Health Science Centre is a teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University and has an anatomic pathology residency training program.

Through strong formal affiliations with Memorial University, and on the recommendation of the Discipline Chair, the successful candidates will be eligible for a clinical faculty appointment in the Academic Department of Laboratory Medicine and may be expected to participate in collaborative research activities and scholarship (ie: teaching).

Our state-of-the-art laboratories currently process approximately 40,000 surgical pathology specimens per year. On call coverage is shared equitably within the group. The Health Science Centre is a teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University and has a molecular and diagnostic pathology residency training program.

Required Qualifications

To be considered, candidates must:

  • Hold a medical degree and have certification Anatomical Pathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent). Subspecialty training in the subdisciplines indicated is favored, but other areas of interest may be considered.
  • Eligible for licensure to practice by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Satisfy credentialing requirements of Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.

Remuneration: Salary and benefits for this position are to be paid in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in NL and commensurate with the level of training and experience.
