Job Summary
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) are valuable members of the interdisciplinary health care team. LPNs provide direct nursing care to predictable and unpredictable clients/patients/residents. The LPN I in the Correctional Services Program works within their individual scope of practice is responsible for health assessment, medication administration, nursing care planning, disease management, wound care, end of life care, and may provide mentoring and direction to students and other staff. This position provides services to HMP and the St. John's Lock up.

Job Demands
By applying for this job, you acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to):
Regularly requires physical exertion and handling, moving, pushing or pulling objects between 10 - 15 lbs and occasionally required to support, lift or move patients/objects up to 30 lbs.
Regularly required to work in awkward cramped positions (bending/kneeling/stretching) and constantly standing and moving about.
Regularly pushes and pulls objects using light to medium forces and stands and walks.
Regularly requires visual concentration to give medications, read orders/referrals, patients' charts/document, observe and treat patients combined with time pressures and deadlines.
Regularly exposed to volatile clients whose behavior is sometimes unpredictable.
A higher-than-normal level of attentiveness is required when assessing high risk patients.
Ability to adapt to constantly changing work demands due to the nature of a highly secure environment, with unpredictable incidents within the prison which may occur frequently.

Job Qualifications
Successful completion of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing program is required.
Current and continuing licensure with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CLPNNL) is required.
Current BLS certification is required.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships.
Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work independently.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
