WorkplaceNL administers an injury compensation system for workplaces in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Internal Review unit provides service to workers, employers or their dependents who disagree with a decision made by WorkplaceNL. As an Internal Review Specialist, you will ensure WorkplaceNL's decisions have been made in accordance with the spirit and intent of the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Act, 2022 (the Act), regulations and policies. You will also represent WorkplaceNL at hearings on these decisions held at the Workers' Compensation Independent Review Board.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, analytical reviews for parties who object to decisions made by WorkplaceNL under the Act, regulations and policies.
  • Ensures written decisions are of the highest quality through fair and just application of policies and statutory requirements.
  • Develops and maintains effective communication with stakeholders involved in the internal review process.
  • Performs quality assurance of file information released to employers to ensure disclosure protects the privacy of clients.
  • Provides representation at hearings scheduled at the independent review board.

Your Background and Experience:

  • University degree, preferably in health care, social sciences, law or a related area is required.
  • Must have five years of experience in a relevant decision-making role, such as decisions on disability management and entitlement to benefits.
  • Experience using policies and legislation to develop high-quality, evidence-based decisions.
  • Superior analytical, oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of administrative law and privacy requirements as guided by the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015, the Personal Health Information Act and the Public Inquires Act.
  • Knowledge of the workers' compensation system, including legislation, regulations and policies.

Experience and an educational equivalency will be considered.
