Demands, duties, qualifications

Definition of work:
The Lead Hand supervises and ensures that projects meet design and safety codes through providing guidance, instruction, direction, and leadership. Working to improve the workplace through continued team work, risk mitigation leadership, OHS & safety regulations, Boiler & Pressure Vessel Regulations, Knowledge of hazardous energy systems, steam, hydronics, electrical, medical gas. A strong knowledge of laundry equipment and sterilizers, operational knowledge of budgeting and team supervisory experience would be an asset. This lead role will assist with team coordination, meeting shared organizational goals, ensuring compliance and clear communication of policies and procedures, mediating and identifying concerns/training needs, and maintaining a safe work environment. In this position, the Lead Hand is responsible for supervising and performing skilled work at the journeyperson level in the applicable mechanical trade, financial accountabilities including budgeting on a monthly basis with signing authority, overseeing the implementation and ongoing maintenance of software associated with the keying system, liaison between security and maintenance, Archibus requests, and orientation of staff. As a lead role within the facilities management team, the successful candidate will assign, oversee, follow up and coordinate work of other journeyperson trade workers and apprentices providing trade expertise, mentorship, coaching, designating work and work orders to appropriate personnel, participate in the repair and maintenance in the applicable trade and other related duties as required. Travel within the region to perform maintenance related duties may be required.

The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

Physical Demands:

• Regularly lifts/moves object up to 25 lbs. Occasionally lifts/moves >50lbs. Push/Pulling forces up to 50lbsF are required.
• Work repetitively involves reaching/stretching, bending and twisting; regular standing, walking, climbing, and being in awkward or cramped positions.
• Use of gross and fine motor skills; constant use of hand tools that require accurate control and steadiness and maintaining physical balance (e.g. ladders/scaffolding).
• Work Environments present potential for exposure to scented/chemical products and/or other allergens within publicly accessible areas.
• Work environments can present exposure to loud noises or environmental hazards; potential for exposure to blood, bodily fluids and/or other contagion. Personal protective equipment is required for specific areas.

Required qualifications:
• A Interprovincial journey person with an applicable Plumbing, Electrical or Mechanical trade recognized in the province NL, as per the guidelines of the JES- aligning with Trades Worker 3 requirements.
• Five (5) years of current experience in the electrical, mechanical, or plumbing trade.
• Demonstrated knowledge of:
• Central Health's structures and policies.
• Computerized maintenance management system.
• Microsoft Office.
• Applicable codes, procedures, and legislation.
• Demonstrated strong time management, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to coordinate a range of related work and project activities.
• Demonstrated effective leadership, decision making, and supervisory skills.
• Ability to effectively mentor, coach, and motivate others.
• Valid Class V Driver's License issued by the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and a clear driver's abstract from Motor Vehicle Registration.
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
