The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Assistant Shift Engineer to join our Site Services Team in Voisey's Bay, Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. Relocation to the province of Newfoundland & Labrador will be required for this role.

This is a permanent on-site position, working a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off rotation.

As an Assistant Shift Engineer you will be responsible for operating Power Generation Facilities with a Registered Pressure Plant under direction of the Shift Engineer and supervision of the Chief Power Engineer. Your experience and skills will be familiar with the power plant and the various control systems used throughout, ensuring that the power plant's generators, boilers, and auxiliaries are operated at a world class standard. The Assistant Shift Engineer will also ensure that effective Safety & Environmental procedures are followed in this area of responsibility.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Perform hourly and daily checks of the various systems within the power plant and the remote emergency generation locations and monitor this data looking for anomalies and direct or perform the necessary maintenance to resolve the problem.
  • Perform all minor maintenance required to keep the main diesel generators and boilers operating at maximum efficiency. This will include oil and filter changes, minor tune-ups, fluid sampling, heating system maintenance and all other maintenance as required.
  • Perform all housekeeping duties required to maintain a clean and safe working environment in and around the power plant and the emergency generator locations. This will include such things as: cleaning floors and walls, wiping down engines and boilers, painting, cleaning the control room and proper storage of tools and supplies.
  • Lockout Power Plant and associated equipment as per Standard Operating Procedures and verifying Zero Energy.
  • Ensure that effective safety and environmental procedures, government regulations, and operating procedures are followed in their area of responsibility as well as segregate hazardous materials in preparation for shipping offsite.
  • Fill-in for the Shift Engineer and/or the Chief Power Engineer when required.

About You

Education:

  • A Newfoundland & Labrador 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate is required.
    • A Newfoundland & Labrador 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate may be considered depending on progression towards a 3rd class ticket.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Previous experience working in a remote mine site would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Maintenance Systems (i.e., SAP).
  • Experience working in an Automated Power Plant.

Skills:

  • Good understanding of diesel fuel transportation, storage and handling rules, and regulations.
  • Working knowledge with all Microsoft Office Products.
  • Must have a good understanding of the Safety & Environmental policies and procedures ensuring work is conducted accordingly.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
