SENIOR ACCOUNTANT - FINANCE
On behalf of our client, Jump Recruitment Specialists is currently hiring for a full-time permanent Senior Accountant in St. John's, NL.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant, is a key contributor to the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department. This role encompasses overseeing accounts payable and procurement, while also directly managing critical tasks such as banking, cash management, month-end closing and financial reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounts Payable and Procurement
- Provides oversight and guidance to staff on processing invoices, credit card statements, and expense claims, ensuring accurate and timely recording in the general ledger.
- Monitors compliance with expense policies and controls to ensure financial integrity.
- Analyzes expenditures to support income statement allocations, expense budgets and operational decision making.
Accounts Receivable and Revenue
- Oversees the transfer of financial data to the ERP system, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of revenue.
- Sets up deferred revenue and recognizes other revenue streams in accordance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
- Collaborates with Finance to reconcile balances and payments between the customer information system and the ERP system.
Cash Management
- Carries out daily banking operations, including intercompany transfers and electronic funds transfers (EFTs) for vendor payments.
- Reconciles bank accounts to the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies.
- Develops and maintains short-term cash flow forecasts to optimize liquidity management.
Financial Reporting
- Leads month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Drafts financial statements each month and assists the Finance Director in preparing monthly reporting packages for Senior Management.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or a related discipline.
- Canadian CPA designation is mandatory. Depending on experience, consideration will be given to otherwise qualified candidates that are currently enrolled in the CPA program.
- Minimum of three plus (3+) years experience with exposure to full-cycle accounting. Some public accounting firm experience is preferred.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Application of Accounting Standards for Private Entities (ASPE).
- Experience using Sage Intacct or similar ERP systems.
- Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products and highly proficient in using Microsoft Excel to prepare working papers and financial analysis.
- Strong work ethic, sense of responsibility and confidentiality.
- Excellent decision marking, communication (both verbal and written), and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks independently and collaboratively
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute effectively within a team environment
- Comfortable and confident in asking questions
