Dartmouth Adult Services Centre (DASC) is a not-for-profit registered charity and business which has served the Dartmouth community for nearly 60 years. Our mission is to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to become self-advocates through program and employment opportunities.
DASC hosts a range of inclusive services including community employment, social enterprise, life enhancement, recreation, youth, and individual support programs. Revenue generated through our social enterprise and fundraising helps us host and deliver these programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The opportunity
DASC seeks an enthusiastic, energetic, entrepreneurial, and results-driven person to lead our business development. They will promote and sell our high-volume production services such as packaging, sorting, recycling, labelling, and button production to local businesses. They will promote our boardroom rentals, champion our mission of inclusive employment, and support "made-at-DASC" product development to employ participants with intellectual disabilities.
Working closely with the Executive Director, they will help share the story of DASC's mission with the business community and lead our social enterprise and fundraising programs. This is an exciting opportunity to help an established organization grow and renew its social enterprise, fundraising, and community engagement activities. The Manager of Business Development will mobilize and work with DASC staff, volunteers, program participants, supporters, donors, and the business community.
Skills, experience, and qualifications we're seeking
- Demonstrated experience and success with sales (experience in developing funds for a non-profit and/or social enterprise is considered an asset)
- Strong customer service and engagement skills
- Strong marketing and business development skills
- Experience with successful fundraising campaigns and events
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; being a team player at DASC is an absolute must
- Comfort with and use of social media platforms and digital technology
- Strong writing skills and experience with writing and submitting proposals for funding
- Ability to liaise with, mobilize, and inspire volunteers, board members, colleagues, program participants, supporters, members of the business community, and other community partners
- Established community networks and connections to Halifax-area community and business leaders is considered an asset
- Experience with building, tracking, evaluating, and reporting on sales and fundraising budgets
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and manage competing priorities
What We Offer
At DASC, we have a dedicated team passionate about what they do. This translates into a happy and healthy work environment. This position is centrally located on Dorey Avenue in Burnside (Dartmouth), making it accessible from any part of the greater Halifax area. There is free parking onsite. The hours of work are 8AM - 4PM, Monday to Friday, although there may be occasions or events when evening or weekend work will be required. We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package (including a defined contribution pension plan and comprehensive medical, dental, and employee assistance programs).
