Position Description
The Systems Analyst is a client facing position with complex analytical and technical duties supporting the implementation, integration and maintenance of the university's enterprise computing systems. Generally works alone on shorter projects with a term less than one week, and in a group on longer projects that can take up to a year to complete. Is expected to work with a client to define the requirements and scope of a project, create the project plan, write the code necessary for the project, and report on project status.
The Systems Analyst does the research required to select a solution for a project. The solution is presented to the Manager, IT for approval. The Systems Analyst then follows the plan to project completion.
The Systems Analyst provides cross-training to other MIS staff in one-on-one and group sessions. Participates in developing standards of practice in MIS and for clients. Must participate in formal and in-house training opportunities to keep up with latest technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute and/or lead the development of deliverables on small, medium, and large IT system enhancement or new development.
- Setup and chair project definition meetings, interviews and/or workshops with stakeholders to review existing information, understand objectives and to elicit requirements.
- Document functional and non-functional requirements; develop system specifications
- Participates in developing standards of practice in MIS and for clients
- Participate in formal and in-house training opportunities to keep up with latest technologies, including reading technology trade publications.
- Conduct benefit analysis for small change initiatives
- Provides cross-training to other MIS staff in one-on-one and group sessions
- Perform software development and software testing for miscellaneous projects/enhancements
Qualifications
- A university degree related to Information Systems, Math or Computer Science (preferred). Minimum 3-5 years business systems analysis experience.
- Well-developed knowledge of system design and analysis
- Strong understanding and application of System Development Methodologies (SDM), workflow and cost benefit analysis
- Good understanding of systems environments, quality assurance and change management
- Direct work experience in higher education would be considered a significant asset.
- Experience with the following technologies is considered a significant asset: Microsoft Reporting tools, SQL, ASP.Net, C#, Banner (Student Information System)
