The Manager contributes to the overall success of the Legal and Corporate Affairs department ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of Strategic Services business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

  • Governance and policy development for the department, including but not limited to the following:

    • Developing and maintaining policies, standards or guidelines and procedures, ensuring alignment within the Bank's structure corporate standards, and compliance with the regulatory environment.

    • Conducting ongoing analysis of policies and procedures, supporting the remediation of any identified gaps.

    • Training and facilitation support as part of the change management cycle as required.

  • Compliance and Risk pillar activities, including:

    • Managing quality assurance reviews, scenario testing, Risk Control Self Assessments RCSA's and Compliance Risk Control Assessment CRCA's while tracking any issue resolution to include external audits or testing.

    • Regulatory change management to include obligation and control library's maintenance and upkeep.

  • Knowledge Management, Change Management and Communications:

    • Managing the collection and communication of global best practices and assisting in the deployment of guiding principles and global best practices.

    • Continually building knowledge and acumen in all aspects of the organization, the business, processes and communications and change management methodologies, best practices.

    • Supporting the maintenance and updating of the department's communication platforms such as SharePoint and Scotiabank Live.

    • Assisting in the development of content, presentations and messaging for events such as: Town Halls, Lunch & Learns, and Conferences.

    • Assisting in the management of the Strategic Services' generic email box.

  • Project Management:

    • Based on departmental objectives, define the scope of assigned projects in collaboration with senior management, and ensure that associated deliverables are completed within prescribed timeframes.

    • Participate in cross-functional projects and support other strategic priorities, as assigned.

  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Bachelor degree in a related field or equivalent experience

  • Strong writer and editor with proven and demonstrated writing and editing skills

  • 3-5 years of Banking/Security experience; exposure to the areas of Governance & Policy, Project Management and Communications would be beneficial

  • Knowledge in working with databases (i.e., OpenPages, Excel)

  • Fluency in French and/or Spanish would be an asset

  • Certificate in Project Management would be an asset

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Practical, analytical, focused on results and efficiency and able to work independently

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Suite
