Definition of Work:
The Addictions Counsellor is an integral member of the Regional Housing Support Team that provides stepped down care and wrap around services to individuals with complex needs who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This position is responsible for:
- Providing professional addictions and concurrent counselling and treatment services to clients using a harm reduction approach
- Providing comprehensive client assessments and support to individuals in establishing personal recovery plans as well as short and long term goals
- Provides ongoing assessment, individual and group counselling, development of treatment plans, follow up services, and prevention/promotion programs for individuals and their families
- Formulating individual and group treatment plans and providing a written risk assessment and information to professionals in related fields and special groups on prevention initiatives
- Educate and engage clients to manage risk factors associated with substance use/abuse, link clients with substance abuse treatment services and provide advocacy.
- Providing education to community and other stakeholders regarding harm reduction approaches
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor of Social Work Degree, Masters in Clinical Psychology or Graduates Degree in a Clinical Discipline.
- Eligibility for registration with a professional regulatory body.
- 2 years current experience (within the last 5 years) in an addictions and/or mental health setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of professional addictions and concurrent disorder, Best Practice Standards as it relates to assessment, treatment, planning, counselling, and evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability in skill assessment, interviewing and crisis intervention techniques, social work programming (if applicable), and delivery methods.
- Demonstrated analytical, as well as, oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated independence, initiative, and ability to work with others.
- Use of a private vehicle and valid driver license are a condition of employment.
- Travel throughout the region will be required
