As an Employment/ Litigation Law Clerk at EY Law, you will play a pivotal role in advising on intricate labor and employment law projects across various geographies. Our EY teams support clients through every stage of their business evolution, assisting them in managing the legal aspects related to their workforce during restructuring, mergers, takeovers, and all forms of business transformation. Litigation Responsibilities:
Document Management:
- Organizing documents, including utilizing document management software if applicable
- Analyzing documents for relevance, for producible and privileged purposes
- Drafting Affidavits of Documents and serving on appropriate parties
- Receiving, reviewing, and organizing opposing parties' documents
- Reviewing and summarizing records
- Reviewing discovery transcripts, drafting Refusals and Undertakings Charts, requesting answers to undertakings, and following up
- Trial preparation
- Service and filing of court documents through court portals or as otherwise required
Pleadings:
- Drafting pleadings, including but not limited to Statements of Defence, Third Party Claims, etc.
- Drafting motion materials, including Notices of Motion, Costs Outline, Bill of Costs, Orders, Consents, etc.
- Preparing mediation/pre-trial briefs
Miscellaneous:
- Providing general assistance to the lawyer, including drafting correspondence on the lawyer's behalf, tracking the status of the lawyer's files, conducting court searches, etc.
- Legal and other research as requested by the lawyer
- Communicating with clients, opposing parties, and court staff
- Scheduling dates
- Keeping apprised of court rules and practices and updating precedents as needed
Employment Solicitor Responsibilities:
- Drafting documents such as termination letters and releases, policies, and employment contracts (working from precedents)
- Preparing presentations for seminars and attending client seminars
- Communicating with opposing counsel and clients
What Will Help You Succeed in This Role:
- Paralegal/Law Clerk Certificate or Diploma
- Strong familiarity with the Rules of Civil Procedure
- Experience in civil litigation
- Proficiency with MS Office/Office365, Teams, OneDrive
- Experience with iManage, ACL would be an asset
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills
