Title : Community Coordinator - Indigenous Engagement

Employee Working Location : Partially Virtual / Hybrid (Winnipeg, MB)

Employment Status : Permanent Full-time

Salary Band : $45,085 - $56,356 / year

In this role, you will :

  • Maintain partnerships with identified communities, with a focus on enhancing youth engagement and leadership in wellness initiatives within their communities.
  • Liaise with community resources including the Child Protection Services, school administrators, justice, inter-agency committees, and community organizations to gather community information both prior and post training.
  • Engage the communities to assess their needs and best practices for addressing violence and abuse prevention concerns and other relative unmet needs within community.
  • Prepare, deliver, and evaluate community training for selected communities.
  • Develop expertise in content, facilitation and training to support programs as required.
  • Support in the preparation of semi-annual and annual funder reports for Supporting Safer Communities initiative.
  • Maintains statistical records for reporting purposes.
  • Prioritize and schedule community meetings, training and follow-up support activities for identified communities.
  • Working alongside the Assistant Coordinator to coordinate logistics for community visits and support calls.

What we are looking for :

  • A degree or diploma in education, social service or other relevant discipline; 1-3 years experience in customer service, community engagement, social services or other relevant sector; or a suitable combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding and knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, beliefs and protocols of the region.
  • Experience delivering public presentations, workshops and/or training sessions.
  • Communication skills - verbal and non-verbal cues, active listening, clearly able to explain self and confirm understanding from beneficiaries; excellent written communications in English.
  • Ability to work well within a team - share information, be helpful, respectful, approachable, build strong relationships.
  • Dependable - Timely, takes initiative and ownership of work, completes tasks without being asked or with little supervision.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel and work non-traditional hours (evenings and weekends).
  • The ideal candidate has lived and/or has professional experience with First Nations, Inuit and/or Métis Nations or communities.
  • Active in broader Indigenous networks and has an enduring commitment to sharing and advancing knowledge derived through Indigenous knowledge systems including balancing Western and Indigenous world views.
  • Considered an asset :
    • Experience in stakeholder engagement working with Indigenous communities and leadership, community-based services, and the general public.
    • Familiarity with Indigenous networks and organizations.
    • Training in protection or violence prevention is a strong asset; knowledge and understanding of violence prevention issues.
    • Experience in living or working in a cultural context other than their own.
    • Experience working with children (0-15) and youth (15-25).

Working Conditions :

  • Travel will be required in under resourced and isolated environments based on the needs.
  • Ability to work in stressful and often ambiguous conditions is required.

The official languages recognized within the Canadian Red Cross are English and French however demonstrated skills and ability to communicate in an or multiple Indigenous language(s) or ability to communicate and adapt within Indigenous protocol is highly desirable.
