About Us
As part of the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services, the Digital Health division provides quality information to health professionals, the public, researchers, and health system decision makers. Our mandate includes the development and implementation of a confidential and secure provincial electronic health record as well as other provincial clinical information programs, including the change management required to support adoption by end user clinicians.
EPIC has been selected as the preferred digital health solution for this HIS project. This transformational change will allow us to join other Canadian provinces in the modernization of our provincial health information system. In support of the HIS project, it has been determined that the NL Health Services will require recruitment for positions in Clinical Informatics.
About the Role
As a Pharmacy Technician you will be assigned to the Beacon (Oncology) Application. The Pharmacy Technician will build and validate chemotherapy regimens as beacon protocols. The Pharmacy Technician integrates with a variety of systems, including scheduling, lab, radiology, billing, and inpatient. The Pharmacy Technician will be expected to be cross trained between 1-2 applications.
Travel to Wisconsin (United States) for training is an expectation of this position. The scheduled date for this training will be determined based on Epic's fall training schedule. A valid passport will be required. Travel within the province for onsite build weeks, site visits, training, etc. will also be expected.
The Pharmacy Technician reports directly to the Informatics Manager- Specialized Clinical.
- You will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following: Build and validate chemotherapy regimens as beacon protocols.
- Work with other clinical applications being installed to identify ways in which those applications can support our clinical pharmacy workflows and configuring the application.
- Analyze our distribution workflows and configuring the system to support these workflows.
- Coordinate the interface between Pharmacy application and dispensing cabinet.
- Work with the Physician, Nursing, Allied Health and Leadership Champions.
- Coordinate and communicating with our end users Understand the objectives for implementing an HIS and can recognize opportunities for process redesign that will help our organization maximize the benefits of the implementation.
- Analyze workflows and documentation, including use case development.
- Responsible for maintaining dependable and accurate data in Health Information Systems while ensuring these systems support clinical standards, best practice in acute and long-term care and community areas throughout the province.
- Work with end-users to define, execute and track test scenarios and ensure appropriate end user training Establish and maintaining effective working relationships with clients across all levels of the organization.
- Communicate and document business and IT information in line with agreed processes and procedures.
- Provide input and advice on IT solution strategies, plans and deployments.
- Ensure adherence to governance and Digital Health Division standards (e.g., privacy and security).
- Supporting change management and deployment of new software systems.
- Provide ongoing consultation and support for users of clinical applications from a variety of clinical perspectives for complex and program specific clinical information systems.
- Consult with application users, program managers, information systems staff, application support personnel, vendors/private businesses, and public stakeholders to identify implementation issues and work with management of the program to resolve issues.
- Facilitate feedback and communication among end users and management.
- Analyze the clinical information requirements of the organization through consultation with managers and professional staff and evaluating opportunities for using clinical applications to meet identified needs and improve efficiencies.
- Facilitate the review of new clinical information systems with prospective users and provide feedback from the consultations to the management team.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders at all levels to review and assess application usage and data quality through periodic audits for compliance with regional, best practice and legislative standards, and identifying strategies to improve compliance.
About You
Your education and experience include:
- Graduation from a recognized (accredited) Pharmacy Technician program or equivalent is required.
- Current licensure and in good standing with the Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board is required.
- Familiar with pharmacy's workflows and procedures
- Understands how the pharmacy department interacts operationally with other areas of the organization, such as ordering physicians, medication administration.
- Communicates well with pharmacists.
- Strong advocate for the project in the pharmacy
- Clinical knowledge of how various medications should be ordered.
- Technical understanding of how build decisions affect things like dose calculations, dispensing, and billing.
