Job Summary
The Children and Youth in Alternate Care (CAYAC) program is currently looking for a Regional Social Work Coordinator (RSWC) to work as a member within a community-based, primary health care, trauma informed, interdisciplinary team. The mission of the program is to provide patient-centered, evidence-based, comprehensive, sustainable healthcare with excellence in quality, inclusion, service, and access to an at risk pediatric population. The principles of this project align with the patient health home model of care, using a collaborative health care team approach, from various health disciplines in the provision of primary health care services to pediatric, "at risk" patients across Eastern zones with a vision to expand provincially.

The Regional Social Work Coordinator is responsible for the planning, organization, coordination and evaluation of services in the CAYAC program. They represent the social work profession and its scope of practice at the regional level and are involved in a range of professional activities designed to maintain and enhance professional standards of care and service delivery.

This position provides advanced specialized clinical leadership and supervision including mentoring, clinical consultation and crisis intervention/dispute resolution. The RSWC will also work with front line social workers and other disciplines across the program in the planning, organization, coordination and development of services. The coordinator will participate in the development of program policies, evaluation of programs, services, and client outcomes in consultation with both the frontline team and program leadership. This position will play a key role in fostering the building of relationships with community partners and endeavor to promote engagement while determining key working relationships between groups. The RSWC will act as a consultative liaison for social workers within CAYAC and CSSD across the province as the program expands provincially.

Work is performed with a significant degree of independent clinical judgement and initiative within the scope of policies, regulations and legislated authority. The position reports to the Division Manager, Children and Women's Health. It is expected that the incumbent will work in collaboration with the Division Manager and multidisciplinary/multiagency team within the CAYAC Program. The Social Worker will be responsible to provide field instruction to Social Work students and offer other clinical education/experience to students within NL Health Services. This position maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Social Work for integrity and professional practice issues.

Job Demands

Work occasionally results in considerable fatigue requiring periods of rest.
Minimal lifting requirements. May lift/carry training/educational materials (weighing less than 10 lbs.) while conducting training.
Regularly sits with patients to conduct therapeutic sessions and to perform work on the computer.
Auditory concentration is required to listen attentively to clients, family members, and social work staff to obtain and interpret information correctly. Higher than normal levels of attentiveness is required when dealing with patient emotional crisis situations.
Many clinical decisions regarding intervention and client outcomes (discharge options, theoretical and treatment approaches) are reviewed/considered and work can involve a series of tasks and activities that are different and sometimes unrelated (administrative and clinical leadership/supervision).

Job Qualifications
Graduation with a Clinical or Integrated Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited program with the MSW field placement in a clinical practice is required.
Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) is required.
A minimum of five years clinical experience within the last seven in pediatrics is required.
Knowledge of evidence based trauma informed practice and the impact trauma has on a pediatric patient's health.
Experience in individual, family and group therapy is required.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to, Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection Act, Advanced Health Care Directives Act, Medical Assistance in Dying, and the Children, Youth and Families Act.
Knowledge of crisis interventions and supportive counseling.
Knowledge of case management.
Knowledge of policy and program development.
Knowledge of Children and Women's Health and issues related to children and youth in Alternate Care.
Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students.
Demonstrated ability to act as a resource to the program on clinical specialty issues.
Demonstrated skills in the research, development and evaluation of policies and programs at a regional level.
Demonstrated ability to provide development, leadership and training to program social work staff and students.
Demonstrated strong clinical leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to act as a resource on clinical specialty issues at the administrative level.
Demonstrated proven analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making, organizational and research skills.
Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to deliver/facilitate effective presentations.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of independence and initiative.
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 driver's license and use of a private vehicle are required.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.

* Current internal Regional Social Work Coordinators who do not possess an approved/recognized Clinical or Integrated Master's degree in Social Work, will be considered for this position following an assessment of their education, skills and abilities.

** The successful candidate must be willing to complete Electronic Medical Record training at the first available opportunity.
