Library Support Specialists (LSS) are members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 5047 (CUPE). The CUPE collective agreement can be accessed by clicking HERE
The Library Support Specialist is responsible for coordinating the operation of the library facility with direct service to students and/or teachers. To enhance student learning, the Library Support Specialist will support students and volunteers under the supervision of the teaching staff in coordinating library activities and the use of library facilities. The Library Support Specialist will process, store, loan, and maintain all materials in the library. Working in a team environment, the Library Support Specialist reports directly to the School Principal or designate.
A Diploma in Library Information Management or equivalent training and experience is required.
Rate of Pay:
This is a 10-month position with a work schedule in accordance with the school year calendar which includes time off at Christmas, March Break and Summer break.
The starting annual salary for a 100% position is $35,817.70 including 4% vacation pay. Rates are based on a five (5) step scale with step increases occurring annually in accordance with the Collective Agreement as shown below.
LSSs are paid every two weeks with the annual salary paid across 12 months (August 1 st to July 31 st ) for working a 10-month school year. The annual salary for term positions less than a school year is pro-rated over the length of the term.
Hours of Work:
Library Support Specialists in 100% positions work 6.5 hours daily (not including unpaid lunch break). Schedule and hours vary for percentage positions.
